A: dont fix it if it isnt broken.....

Q: I have a 2005 Passat sedan, what vw cd changer can I plug in or what after market model can I use?
factory installed radio/cd player

A: Originally, VW used two brands of changers for the Passats, most however, were the National (Panasonic) brand that was a direct interface with the factory radio. The factory unit is very expensive, I haven't installed one in a while, but seem to remember is was close to $500 for the unit including the mounting brackets and tax. Personally, I'd go with an aftermarket unit (non VW). Many manufacturers make a unit that will work with your factory radio. You might have to purchase a special interface cable or adapter so that the unit will work with your factory radio controls, but its not a difficult thing to do. If you have some experience working with simple tools, you should be able to install the unit without any problem. I'd check with a local stereo shop and see what they have available to work with your radio. You should be able to get a fully functional unit installed for $300 or less, depending upon brand and size of the changer. The previous writer recommended crutchfield, which can be a good place to start. I've found them helpful in the past. Hope this helps, a car nut.

Q: How do i know if a B5.5 VW Passat has 4 motion?
I want to buy a 2003 - 2005 Passat wagon with either the 4 or 6 cylinder motor. Apart from the badge on the rear (or crawling under the car), how can i tell if it has all whel drive?

A: Hello An easy question to answer. A four motion is just that. propelled / driven by all four wheels. Please do not take the advise of revving high and letting the clutch engage drive as you could end up with damage to the clutch or drive shafts. Instead just look under the rear of the car and if you see a cross ( not upset ???) bar/axle,then it is front wheel drive only. Should you see drive shafts then it is a four wheel drive. All best Don (Mackie )

Q: Is my 2005 Volkswagen passat 44,000 miles covered under the NY state lemon law?
I am about to buy a a 2005 VW Passat 44,000 miles from a dealer. I am the second owner. The car is not certified. What happens if I drive the car for a month and it breaks down. Or six months and it breaks down. What obligation does the selling dealer have? I am not buying any kind of extended warranty form them. I'm getting the car as is. I did have my own mechanic look it over and he says it is a good car. But am I protected under the lemon law?

A: Here's a link to the Used Car Lemon Law. Few states allow a very limited lemon law on used cars. Ny is one......md http://www.123car.com/lemon/bystate/NY_lemonlaw3.html

Q: Where can I get a Spare Key for a 2005 Passat?
I just bought a 2005 Passat, it only came with one key. I just found out from the VW dealer that it will cost $150 to have the key cut and another $90 to have it programmed. Does anyone know of any other place that I can get a spare key for my car? I'm not up for paying $240 for a spare key. I'm really disappointed in VW. Thanks.

A: Nope, just the dealership. Although, the car should've come w/ two keys.

Q: VW Passat question?
Does the VW Passat (1998-2005) & the current gen. have a telescoping steering wheel? Thanks 4 ur answers.

A: Yes tilt and telescope.

Q: Should I get an oil change now?
My car is almost on 21,000 miles. My last change was at 19,000 miles. I'm supposed to get a change at 22,000 miles. I know I have a lot of mileage to wait, but I was told by someone that I should change oil at least every 3 months anyway. Well, it's been over 4 months.... should I get the oil change. I don't want to ask the Service Dept. at the dealer because they love ripping me off. If it helps any, I have a 2005 VW Passat 1.8T = expensive oil changes.

A: every 3000-5000 miles, depending on how you drive your car. If you do a lot of stop and go, or a lot of short trips, take it in sooner. If you do longer highway trips, take it at 5000... but don't go over 5000... changing your oil regularly is the EASIEST way to keep your engine in tip top shape. But ignore this, and you'll ruin your engine really quickly.

Q: HOW MUCH AIR SHOULD I PUT IN TIRES?
Hi , i live in a place where the roads is ALWAYS bumpy and a lot of POT holes. I have a 2005 VW PASSAT V6.... 17 inch tire. my manual says back 40 from 35... i think thats too much. so i left it on 30 psi... whats the safest ??? i do speed up to 100 MPH ... so what you think?

A: Your manual knows best. The people who built your car spent years and millions of miles testing it for the best air pressure. By under-inflating your tires you reduce their load carrying capacity and increase your risk for premature and uneven tire wear or even a blowout. Put the pressures back where VW says to. The people who determined that pressure are automotive engineers. They are qualified to make that decision. None of us here are automotive engineers. You or I or anyone else is not qualified to make a different decision. And to all the dimwits who think there is an inflation recommendation on the sidewall of the tire you are wrong. The only inflation pressure listed is the tires maximum load capacity at its maximum inflation pressure. That is for informational purposes, not a recommendation.

Q: Car radio quality?
This is about the car radio reception. For months I drove brand new AVIS cars in the USA and the 99.5 FM WCRB sounded as if a home theater is playing it. No noise, no disturbance. Clean and pure classical music. My friend now bought a VW Passat 2005 and I bought a Honda Civic 1999. FM radio reception for 99.5 WCRB and 89.7 WGBH are noisy. Why is this the case????? I really do not understand.. when I set the player for the LOCAL SEEK - it does play a few channels without any hissing noise. So I am sure some of them work just fine. The comparison here is between my car and all those rental cars which caught the most important channels clean too. I fixed in an after - market SONY MP3 player with FM radio.

A: If there are no outside factors (new buildings constructed, new trees planted, signal from station is weaker, etc) then the problem is most likely that these cars have either lower quality radios or lower quality antennas. Or it could be both.

Q: What's the difference between...?
the 2005 Jetta Volkswagen Sedan http://images.cars.com/main/DMI/6766/3818.jpg http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:VW_Jetta_sedan.jpg and the 2005 Passat Volkswagen Sedan? http://static.howstuffworks.com/gif/autoreview/400x266/2005-Volkswagen-Passat-04606131990004.jpg

A: The jetta is smaller and shorter in length and more reliable. My best friend's dad has a diesel jetta that he uses to commute from Charlotte NC to Washington DC every monday & friday and it has 400,000 miles on it and has broken down 3 times. The passat is more expensive to repair and less gas efficient and wayyyy less reliable. :]
