Q: car questions- I own a 2001 VW Passat- recently whenever I make any turns, my car makes this weird noise.?
it almost sounds like a clicking noise. Like when you are on a roller coaster, and its slowly going up the tracks...I know I definitely need to bring it to a mechanic, but I was wondering if anyone can tell me what it might be? Thanks for your siggestions.
A: I have the exact same problem on my 02 Passat. I checked into it and I'll tell you what I learned. I found that the clicking sound definitely indicates a bad outer CV joint. Your car is front wheel drive and has two "axles", this is the part that connects the transmission to the wheels. The axle is comprised of an inner cv (Constant Velocity) joint, an axle, and an outer cv joint. As far as I can tell replacing the entire axle assembly is actually cheaper/easier than just replacing the outer CV joint. I'm gonna try and do this repair myself and the cost of the two axle assemblies (driver and passenger side) is 205 dollars delivered. Outer CV joints do wear out, this is regular maintenance (mine lasted 100k miles) ...so I'm going to replace both left and right axles. If you take your car to a shop they might charge you less for the parts buy you will pay around $200 for the labor. You're call bro....but just get 'em fixed because if they break, you'll be hangin' on the side of the road waiting for a $80 tow truck.
Q: where is the oil pressure sensor on a 2001 vw passat V6?
Im looking for the oil pressure sensor on my 2001 VW Passat V6... Oil is pouring from the mid top passengers side front and its not the cam seal or pushing out of the dip stick, and too much to be a valve cover gasket.. Its dumping about a half quart in 10 min. of idling.. Cannot see where it is comming from and hoping there may be a sensor up there... just started one day...
A: oil pressure switch locate behinh the oil filter housing...but from what you described, I think oil is leaking out from the upper oil pan gasket...
Q: What does the "emmisions workshop" alarm mean on my 2001 VW Passat?
A: I would guess that you need to have the emmisions checked. Your owners manual should have that information.
Q: I have a 2001 VW Passat, with low mileage (57k) but no more warranty, should I sell it now?
Concern is that without warranty, if anything goes wrong, repairs are quite costly. So is it worth taking a chance and using it for a few more years or consider trading it in?
A: My experience with VW's has been one problem after another but... if it hasn't given you any problems why worry about it?
Q: will oem steel wheels off a 2001 VW Passat fit on a 1993 Mercedes 190E?
A: Yes and no...In 98, the Passat went to a 5X112 bolt pattern with 17" wheels....
While the 93 190 (Well ALL Mercedes) have a 5X112 bolt pattern, they will actually fit on there...
BUT the Passat is a front wheel drive and the Benz a rear wheel drive, so the offset will be WAY off.....
Q: Can someone tell me what the problem is with my 2001 VW Passat?
My 2001 Passat is doing something weird. When driving around at speeds of 80 km per hour or less, the temperature stays at 90 degrees Celcius, which is right in the middle of the guage. Anything 90 km per hour or over, the guage jumps to 130 degrees (redlie). Then I get the stop alarm with the temperature signal flashing.. When I slow down to 80 or less, the guage immediately drops back down to 90. I''m thinking this is a sensor or something. Any help would be great. Thanks!
Edit: Coolant for the engine is right where it should be when I check it in the tank when the engine is cold...
A: If the Engine is getting hot at high speeds but not at lower speeds, that is an indication of a partially plugged radiator.
I recommend you have it checked.
Q: VW Passat 2001 Estate?
I have just bought a VW Passat Estate 2001. And the boot release doesnt work. Can anyone suggest why and how I should attempt to repair it.
A: You will need to remove the panel off the rear hatch , inside there. is the locking mechanism ,on the side of it is a little lever that is responsible for the operation of the boot release check it is in the correct position , you can do this by getting some-one to operate the boot release while you are looking at the lock mechanism you will be able to see where the lever makes contact with the lock & also at the same time see if the cable ( if fitted ) has snapped . On some models of passat the boot release is operated electronically if this is the case i would suggest a car electrition .
Q: Repairs on a 2001 VW Passat Wagon?
I have a 01 VW Passat wagon... 72000 miles. The car was surging and idling rough so we took the car in. The dealership had if for 1.5 months. The car was suppose to still be covered under warranty so they put in a new turbo engine, new turbo feed line, New oil pump pickup, new cam chain tensoner, tooth belt, roller, beltdamper, water pump, thermostat and coolant was added. A week after picking up our "fixed" car, the check engine light came on. Now mind you we just spent $1200 to fix it. Now the dealership is saying we need to fork over another $950 for more maintenance... my question is wouldn't they have realized that this work needed to be done when they had the car the week prior, we only drove the car at the most 200 miles over that week period. They started to say we needed 4 spark plugs and a coolant temperature switch and something else... anyone help! Thanks
A: their ripping you off i would kick some ass

Q: Which fuse controls the brake lights on a 2001 VW passat?
A: if its an early 2001 (pre-facelift), then it is fuse 13 in the diagram provided. if you are having problems with the brake lights, i would suggest replacing the brake light switch under the dash attached to the brake pedal. the part shouldn't be more than $30 and the second link shows how to install the brake light switch. good luck
Q: Hi. I have a VW Passat 2001 new body 1.8t . The car is great, but thursty. What kind of MPG should it have?
I'd just like to know what others are experiencing with this cars.
A: Your average gas mileage should be around 19-21 mpg in the city and 28 on the highway. If its less than that check and see what kind of fuel your putting in. Volkswagen recommends 91 octane premium for that engine.
