Q: Leakage on passenger side of 2000 VW Passat?
Hi, I experienced a leakage on the passenger side of my 2000 VW Passat. It rained for a couple of days, so I thought that may be the reason, however it has never happened before. Any ideas? The leakage was on the inside of the car. From what I could see, there was no color to the substance on my floor. It just looked like the floor was wet, but only on the passenger side floor. Not on any of the seats or anything.

A: smell the substance if it has a sweet smell to it i would say antifreeze from heater core if no smell have the seals around the door checked or possible sunroof leak

Q: What kind of rims should I get on my 2000 Vw Passat?
Silver Passat. Clean ride. What rims should i get? Any other cool things I should get or know about?

A: I actually have a 2000 passat myself, and I just bought 18'' BBS LM rims. BBS are my personal favorite because they have decent style and are made very well but it varies and depends on what you like. Whatever kind of rims you decide to get, make sure that the bolt pattern fits, which in your case, is 5x112. Check out these sites to get a feel for all the kinds of wheels people have on their passats: tirerack.com http://forums.vwvortex.com/zeroforum?id=804 (vw forum) some other things you might like are: - different types of headlights, such as projectors/hids - smoked sidemarkers Just look around on some of the vw forums and you'll get a taste of how many passat owners mod and change their car. good luck!

Q: How many miles can I expect from a 2000 VW Passat?

A: 300k+

Q: No Heat in my 2000 VW Passat, Please Help!?
2000 VW Passat, last winter big leak on floor behind driver seat, this winter no heat. Please Help!

A: Don't know what the leak would be about, if it's radiator fluid you'd know it by the smell. Also, your car would overheat. I'd say the two are unrelated. check your fuses, then your heater coil.

Q: can i run my 2000 vw passat tdi on pure biodiesel without adopting the engine?

A: If your VW has a diesel engine then yes biodiesel it up. Does not work for gasoline engines.

Q: 2000 VW Passat Remote Key not working ?
I have a 2000 Volkswagen Passat.. The batteries recently died on my key remote. Last night they were working fine, but now it is not. I replace the batteries but no luck. I unlocked the driver''s door and went to turn on the ignition. As soon as I turned the key, the alarm began to sound. I tried this over several times, and every time the alarm would sound. I am able to turn the key and get power to the radio, a/c, etc., but the engine will not start. I tried replacing the batteries and it still would not start. Is their is any way to disabling the alarm so I be able to start the car. I spoke with VW dealership and they said he could not do anything. I just don''t know where to go from here. My question is, is there a way to get my car alarm off without having to tow my car to the dealership?

A: It appears that your key has lost it's coding. The only other thing you can try is using your spare key. Other than that, stick your key in the ignition and have your car towed to the dealer. Make sure you take ALL your keys to the dealer, as they need all keys to be programmed together.

Q: What is wrong with my 2000 VW Passat?
I bought my 2000 VW passat and soon after the check engine light came on, although I have taken it to the dealer several times it is still a mystery to why it keeps coming on. But my main problem started last winter when a pretty severe leak on the floor behind the passenger seat, by the time I could get it looked at it was spring and was no longer leaking anymore. Now I realize that I have no heat in the car at all, the fan just blows cold air. Also, now my drivers side heated seat stopped heating. I hope someone can help! Thanx!

A: Ah... The check engine light mystery. This is a very common light that comes up, basically telling you something is wrong with the engine but doesn't tell you what it is. You have to get a engine code reader to decipher exactly what's wrong. Luckily, you can take it to auto zone, or any other auto part stores and they can read it for you for free, if you are nice to them. Regarding the heater question, when you say there was a leak behind the passenger seat, is it outside the car or inside? If outside, I suspect you may have a small coolant leak from the heater core which explains why you are not getting any heater. I'm guessing it only leaks when you're trying to turn on the heater, and in springtime you don't use the heater anymore. Go to the passat forums and ask your question again with more details, lots of real nice folks will help you out. http://www.passatworld.com/forums/

Q: How much should it cost to replace the timing belt in a 2000 VW Passat?
My local Squiffy Lube place just quoted me $1200 to change the timing belt and water pump on my wife's 2000 VW Passat. There is nothing wrong right now, but I know for routine maintenance the timing belt should be changed ASAP (car has 90k miles) but I was wondering: 1 - what is a reasonable cost for replacing the timing belt 2 - Does the water pump have to be changed at the same time - I know if you change the water pump it is V sensible to change the timing belt, but I wasn't sure if the same was true in reverse. FYI - it has the 4 cyl 1.8T engine. Thanks!

A: I always recommend to replace the water pump when you are doing a timing belt. It is worth the investment. At the dealer we charge around 1000 dollars for the parts and labor but i do some timing belt at for around 650 Parts and labor

Q: Has anyone had good luck with their 2000 VW Passat? My daughter wants one... purchase for low $$ or not?
I've heard that they are prone to expensive problems...... and very few reputable shops to repair them when they do break down. Is this everyone's experience? Or just the opinion of a disgruntled few?

A: ok i have a 2001 passat glx, its a great car in my opinion but mine is fully loaded and a five speed, it was aslo the year they re-designed them. if its a v6 then go for it, but if its a vr6 or a 1.8t (turbo) dont buy it too expensive to fix and alot of problems. yes it does cost a pretty penny to fix a passat mine was 40,000 brand new, they are imported to the US from germany. in my opion if you want mileage, power, and luxury go for it. WHAT THE GUY BELOW ME DOSENT REALIZE IS THAT JUST BECAUSE A CAR IS EIGHT YEARS OLD AND HASNT HAD ANY REPAIRS DONT MEAN ITS GOING TO BREA.K ITS CALLED TAKE CARE OF YOUR CARS.

Q: Just bought a 2000 vw passat 1.8T, should I be Worried?
Having taken the car for a test run all seems fine. Sadly the test run didn't last for 40,000 km's. I'm extremely worried having read some disturbing reports as regards the reliability of the passat.

A: The 1.8T is prone to sludge, since 2004 VW recommends using synthetic oil only in this engine. Since yours lasted this long the owner probably used synthetic all along. Another issue was the ignition coils, which were recalled and likely replaced in your car. So no I would not be worried. One more thing, the water pump uses a plastic impeller, if one day you overheat all of a sudden, shut off the car immediately and replace the water pump, its designed to last till the timing belt needs replacing about 60,000 miles but some fail sooner.

Q: Missing 2000 VW Volkswagen Passat Emblem. Where to buy?
My brother's 2000 Passat V6 model emblem fell off this morning. It's the emblem on the rear trunk door. Apparently, the glue might have worn off. Does anyone know of a good place online where he can buy a replacement? Thanks.

A: try a salvage yard first, then call a VW dealer and order one. Good luck

Q: i dropped my 2000 vw passat remote key in water today what do i do?

A: It may still work, I have sent Key Fobs thru the laundry and had them still work. Dry it out & cross your fingers.
