Q: Diagnosis charge on VW passat 2001-How much does it cost?
I need to run a full diagnosis report on the passat, without repairs. I really want to be fair and competitive with my charges for raising the report using VW Scanner.
Any ideas how much is being charged on such a car in other shop?

A: If you aren't using the VW computer, you won't get a full report. Of course you need to be certified and capable of getting in to the VW service web site to do it. When I quit, the dealer was charging $95.00 and took about 1 1/2 hours to do. That was a few years back. If you are using a Snap On or other after market unit, I wouldn't charge more than .5 or .75 hours.
Q: What would a Slightly damaged 1999 VW Passat be worth?
I can buy a 1999 VW passat For 1900. It needs a rear bumper cover, trunk lid, RH Tail light and both front park lights. It has 127k miles and most options, alloy wheels, tip-tronic Auto, moonroof, 1.8 turbo. Engine light is on, but car runs fine. Because of damage has salvage title. Any help would be great, i really just dont know if it would be worth putting money into.
A: Well i own close to 40 different vw's you could part out the car very easily. each sensor is worth around 300 dollars, the motor and turbo is worth alot.. The car to fix would not be that much. It all depends if you doing it yourself.the hood is worth 266 bucks new in canada..light ass is 250 bucks... bumper cover is 250 bucks..truck lid is 310 bucks.. so it aint that bad.. normely that car sells for around 9000 bucks in premium condition
Q: Does anyone have idea how to replace the Hood Struts for my VW Passat?
Please share with me few snaps as how to replace the Hood Struts for my VW Passat. I couls see a bols and not at the lower end. But the upper part of the Strut which is attached to Hood looks different to me. I couldn't identify any way to detach the old one.

2002 VW Passat, with a horrible 2.8 V6 motor in it... I want to put either an W8 motor in it within the VW perameters, an Audi 4.2 V8 engine or the Audi Biturbo V6. Basically I want an upgrade with some more balls than the previous. Which one should I pick based on easily installed, HP, and additional mods. I have the GLX
A: Easy, sell your passat and buy a 2000-2002 Audi s4. It's cheaper, faster, easier, more luxurious, and it's already got the v6 biturbo engine.
For your passat, the V6 biturbo will give the most power if modified.
The W8 passat motor will be the most easily installed.
Since you are asking this question, it's safe to assume that you haven't done it before so none of these will be easy. Unless you can find someone who can do engine management and modify the wiring harness, the engine won't even run. These aren't 1960's cars where engines could be swapped with 10 wires. None of these options are cheap.

A: if it does not have a turbo , it serves no purpose aside from wasting money. if it does have a turbo, the bov is a safety device if you think about it protecting both your wife from really high speeds and the engine form extreme pressures.

A: If you look in the glovebox of your car there should be a lock which you can use to turn the passenger airbag on and off using your car key.

Q: Is the "Airbag Fault" light on my VW Passat indicative of a serious problem?
A couple weeks ago I was driving on an uneven road in my 2000 VW Passat and accidentally hit a pothole in the road as I was going about 35 mph. Right after I hit it, the "Airbag Fault" light came on on my dashboard. The airbags did not deploy, and resetting my car's battery didn't get rid of the fault light. Is this a serious problem I should get checked out right away? Will it be expensive to fix?
A: There are a couple of possibilities here: if it were a sharp jolt, then I'd say that a seat sensor might be a problem, I don't think that the impact sensor would be at fault.
The vehicle needs to go to a VW specialist or the dealership; some who can work the the VAG scan tool properly will need to run some tests to determine the cause of the fault.
As far as costs go, until someone has determined what has caused the light to come it is almost impossible to estimate at this point in time. Figure to spend between 1/2 hour to 1 hour at the shop rate to determine cause. If its determined that it is a wiring concern, you should figure at least 2 hours of labour at the posted shop rate to try and find and repair it.
I'm sorry that I cannot be more helpful than this, without having a diagnosis code, no one will be able to begin to guess. A car nut.

How can I change or replaced the front break pads in '99 Volkswagen Passat? It's a disc breaks and do I need special tools to do it? I have already replaced the rear break pads, but the front breaks looks so different. My car is a '99 VW passat gls 4dr, 1.8 ltr 20v turbo engine. Thanks.
A: get a service manual so you'll know the specs when you torque the calipers. You do torque the calipers, right? Make sure you lube your brake pad pins and clips with a bit of high temp grease. You want those pads to release.
Q: How to stop the alarm going off on my VW Passat - URGENT!?
It's 00:30. The alarm on my VW Passat keeps going off; now it does it as soon as I lock the car, even if I follow the instructions in my book for "locking without the alarm".

A: Pull your negative terminal off your battery. Simple as that. You will probably have to reset your clock and radio presets but thats better than your neighbors calling the cops and you getting a ticket for disturbing the peace.

A: theres a recall on it. its a vaccum problem.

A: The v6 probably fits bolts up to another similar v6 VAG engine without too much trouble BUT
you have to figure out engine management, that's a huge pain, engine mounts, exhaust and intake routing, emissions, and where would you place the intercoolers? So NO, you have to change many things and it will be very expensive. If you have a 4 cylinder engine then the transmission and driveline has to be changed too.

the choice is actually between the smoothness and reliability of toyota and the poewr of the 2000cc/200hp vw passat engine. I'm at loss. can anybody help me choose? ps. this is going to be my first car.
A: a camry is a much better choice.. toyota makes better cars to begin with. they are much better on reliability and much better on gas.. toyota is still made in japan and the usa.. vw is now almost always made in mexico. later model vw have too many problems compared to a toyota and in case you do get that one toyota out of a thousand that's bad then fixing it is much cheaper and easier on you than a vw..
