Q: Ordering a New VW Jetta TDI? How long does it usually take?
I want to order a Manual transmission VW Jetta TDI in the USA. Unfortunately, my dealer only have automatics. If I order a Jetta, how long does it usually take to come?

A: Find another dealer. With the poor economy, these cars are stacking up in dealer lots. http://www.myturbodiesel.com/1000q_how_to/a5/jettachecklist.htm Here is a review for the 2009 TDI Jetta with invoice, msrp, and other stuff to check. Good luck.

Q: Where is the Fuel Pump Relay located on a 2002 VW Jetta TDI?
My 2002 Jetta TDI wont start because im pretty sure its not getting fuel, i want to check out the fuel pump relay but i cant find it anywhere and ive tried looking online and still cant find anything that tells me where its located. if anyone knows where it is i would be VERY appreciative! thanks.

A: Look under the hood and it should be located in the power distribution box and it should be the # 4 relay.....

Q: How do you change the thermostat on a 1998 vw jetta TDI?
Where is the thermostat located? Can you get to it without going under the car?

A: My suggestion is take it to a repair shop dear. This is an inexpensive repair really. The thermostat is only worth 20 bucks tops. Have a qualified technician change it for you. It will cost you maybe $100.00 all in.

Q: Does anyone have the VW Jetta TDI (diesel) car and how is it so far?
I am shopping for a new car and this is one of my top 3 choices. I am curious hope reliable it is and does it get the mileage is states, up to 40/gal hwy, in reality rather than the test lab.

A: Volkswagen makes fantastic diesels. I test drove the new TDI and it was smoother and quieter than my 2.5 gasoline VW. My dad has an '98 Jetta TDI and he gets about 40 miles per gallon driving mostly in town. TDI owners typically report getting better fuel economy than the sticker says. It isn't uncommon for one to achieve 55 MPG on the highway. The new ones are no exception and they're fantastic cars.

Q: Is the VW TDI Jetta a reliable vehicle?
I'm looking into buying a new VolksWagon TDI Jetta and I am wondering what others know about it. Thanks

A: Ok ignore the two dumb answers above me, just completely stupid uneducated answers. ANYONE that is buying a diesel has 2 things in mind torque and economy. In the january 2006 issue of Diesel Power they got a jetta and had 47 mpg with it. Power was very great according them and they got at least 5 mpg better than they are rated by the epa, and it isnt even broken in yet. My step mom has a 2005 tdi bug and gets 52 mpg and it has the six speed auto. That thing runs very well, very quick car, quiet and powerful. The vw diesels are very sophisticated refined engines that have come quite a long way. There is an aftermarket for them too, to increase power and mileage. Just remember horsepower is a figured off of torque figures. Go out and drive one, you wont be disappointed espicially being able to go 500 miles on just 10 gallons. And if you are really ambitious you could run it for free on veg oil. If you like you can email me a fordasskikr@sbcglobal.net and I will scan in the article and send it to you, they really liked the car and I think you would be pleased with one also.

Q: when should i change the timing belt on my 2003 vw jetta tdi?

A: after 100,000 miles or when it starts running like hell and your mechanic suggests you do so.

Q: how long does it take to change a timming belt on a 2004 vw jetta tdi?

A: At least 5 hours, and you need some special tools. You don't want to mess up your injection timing. There is no line up marks. You remove the valve cover and install a special plate. Then there is a pin that locks your injection pump gear in place. I have seen people put their own marks and get away with it, but it's really risky. Diesels have a ton of compression and if you do it wrong you generally need a new cylinder head. Maybe pistons too.

Q: Where is the best place to look for for a 2000-2006 VW Jetta TDI (diesel) for a decent price ($15,000 or less)
We want a Jetta TDI because of the fuel mileage. Jetta TDI's typically run close to 300,000 miles from what I have heard and read. We would buy one that has 100,000 miles (or possibly more). The problem is I live in a pretty small town, so there aren't many VW dealerships nearby. Plus, the closest dealership told us there is a list of about 20 people waiting for anytime they get in any more TDI's and that if we wanted to add our names to it we could. I've looked on Ebay, other auto websites (Autotrader, etc.) and at some dealerships websites, as well as private listings from individuals, but I haven't found anything in my price range that isn't hundreds of miles away or ridiculously priced. I have checked Kelley Blue Book for pricing, and some of these people and dealerships are really pushing it. Should I just wait it out and hope that exactly what I'm looking for comes along? Or should I search somewhere else? Any other suggestions on where to look? I'll also add that it needs to be in very good condition. So, a 2000-2005 Jetta TDI with 100,000 miles on or less for $8,000 (for a 2000) -$15,000 (for a 2005). Thanks for your help!

A: The best place that I have found you already mentioned - Ebay and Autotrader. I have signed up previously for email alerts for both and that helps in finding the right vehicle in your specified price range and location. I have purchased numerous used cars (at least one a year) and the best method is to be patient. Good Luck with you search!!!

Q: I have a 1998 vw jetta tdi. Repo'd vehicle. What next?
The engine does not turn when I attempt to push-start the vehicle (as if it is ceized). The crankcase appears to have oil at the prescribed level. Is there a simple way to determine if the motor is doa? Or is there something I can do to diagnose without engine removal? Thanks.

A: place a large socket on the crank pulley and try to turn it. Also, you could try putting on a new starter. Diesels are not easy to turn because of high compression.

Q: Velour Seats on a 2001 VW Jetta TDI?
I am having a terrible time cleaning the lint off of the velour seats. I wonder if it is static? I have tried a vacuum cleaner, brushes, a damp rag, a whisk broom, the tape type of clothes rollers. It doesn't seem to matter what I try because none of these tools will remove the lint from the seats. The best thing I have found is to use a leather glove and just wipe the lint from the seats, but that still doesn't a very good job. Within a few days it looks as bad as it did before. It is embarrassing to have people sit in the car with me. They are afraid it will be on their clothes when they get out. A vacuum cleaner with or without the beater brush does not remove any of it. It doesn't matter what time of year it is, whether it is very dry or very humid. Has anyone else had this problem?

A: Just make sure you've got the fuzzy dice and pine tree air freshener and your guests will forgive all.

Q: I have just bought a 2007 VW Jetta TDI 6 speed auto, been told that the 80K service costs $4k, is this right?

A: That's way too high. About $1200 is the timing belt and water pump. But I can't imagine what the other $2800 is for. Besides NO BODY does the complete list of stuff on the maintenance list. === Call around and find a VW specialist (not the dealer). They will often do as good as the dealer but cheaper. here is the list of stuff to be done Regular 60K mile maintenance schedule. * New Spark plugs, New Spark plug wires & coils (all-in-one on Audi / VW), * New Air filters, * New Fuel filters, Clean or replace Fuel injectors (just use fuel injector cleaner), Test fuel pressure, ** Replace timing belt, ** Change engine oil, ** Change transmission oil, ** Change differential lubricant, Change brake fluids, Check battery connectors, Check (test) charging system, Replace O2 sensor, ** Change coolants, * Replace belts, Check large hoses (coolant, etc), Check small hoses (vacuum, etc.), Check tires wear / pressure, Check suspension parts (ball joints, etc.) Lubricate hinges (doors, hood, trunk, etc.) Replace interior cab air filter The items with star (*) are the very important item. The items with two stars (**) are the real important items. Other items can wait till they go bad (if ever). Good Luck... P.S. Call around. Dealers don't always charge the same thing.

Q: My VW TDI Jetta loses power going uphill, please can you tell me why?
I had the fuel filter changed.

A: Tune up Clean injectors

Q: Are 2001 VW JETTA TDI TURBO DIESEL good cars?

A: I second that - YES! I had a 2002 VW TDI and it was great! Excellent gas mileage... If you're looking at buying one used you'll want to have a few things checked out, though. Jetta's have a bad habit of burning out the power window motors as well as having some parking break issues. I don't know about the windows, but the parking break piece that was faulty was recalled at least in the 2002 version, so have a VW shop run the VIN for anything that still needs to be updated! (Should be free...)
