Q: is vw jetta diesel available in us?

A: VW stopped making TDI's for 07' while they do some technology updates to their diesel engines. You may be able to find a leftover 06' model but those are becoming scarce. Hopefully VW will offer their new TDI engine in most of their cars for 08'

Q: Why would anyone buy a VW Jetta Diesel? ?
sure it gets 41 MPG, but why would people buy this? I agree if someone likes diesel engines... but that's it. 1. Fuel filter change every 20,000 miles = $30.00 (part) 2.Oil change: You have to use Volkswagan's special 507.00 oil at the dealer. Each quart is $10 and you need 5 of them. YOu can't get cheaper ones at an auto parts store because none of them are 507.00. 3. Diesel is 2 times expensive than regular gas. QUestion: Why would anyone buy a diesel? You're wrong. On VW gas cars, you do not have to change the fuel filter for the life of the vehicle. On my MItsubishi, you don't have to change it until 60,000 miles. Diesel filters are twice or three times the cost of gas filters. 507.00 VW approved Oil... not $507.00..... duh! KB, Check your owners manual. I'll bet you it says "Fuel filter change is not required" I used to own a Jetta... I know. kb, that's if you own the new model bug, not the vintage ones. KB, The oil change is more than $50 if you do it yourself. On my mitsubishi Eclipse, an oil change only cost me about $10

A: Diesels in the past were purchased because of their long life; fuel economy was always better than a gas engine of the same displacement, but horsepower was less and low end torque was always more.... Diesels can have an overhaul cost that is slightly lower than a gas engine; yes, you must use special oil (Mobil 1 0-40 European formula meets standard 505.01 (as I understand it, the only difference between 507.00 and 505 is the weight of the oil -- 507.000 is 0-30) and filters that need replacement more often. (You can purchase Mobil 1 european formula 0-40 at Walmart for $6.00 per quart or less). Diesels don't have ignition coils that can fail; spark plugs or ignition cables that can wear out and other parts related to usage of gasolene in a motor. A major service on a diesel is less expensive than a gasolene engine, I've done a cost comparision a while back between a 2.0 liter gas engine vs. 1.9 TDI motor and the overall costs are about 7% less for the diesel motor over 100,000 miles even considering the fuel economy difference and maintance vs a 2.0 liter gas motor. One factor that you have not considered is the depreciation factor; the depreciation factor for a gas engined VW (save for things like GLI / GTI etc) are much higher than for a diesel of the same year. According to the Kelly Blue web site, the trade in value for a 2003 Golf GL 2 door 5 speed base edition with 80,000 miles in excellent condition is $5875, vs. 2003 Golf 2dr. GL TDI base edition with the same miles is $8925 or a difference of $3050!!. It is true that the MSRP of the diesel (according to Kelly Blue Book for new cars, 2003 second edition) was $1425 higher, but the diesel also included traction control which was not available on the gasolene version of the base GL! The point that I'm trying to make is that on a strictly financial issue, the diesel does make sense to some people. On a financial side only, my guess is that the 2003 Golf GL TDI cost per mile is about 22% less when depreciation is also factored in. Hope this helps, a car nut.

Q: What kind of real world gas mileage should I expect out of a small VW diesel?
I am interested to know what kind of real world mileage I should expect out of a VW Gulf, Jetta, or Beetle diesel.

A: I have a friend that's a VW TDI "nut" and he does some modification to them as soon as he gets one. He's also modified quite a few TDI's for people that he knows. He orders euro injectors and also increases the pump pressure. He drives around a lot with a computer hooked up to monitor his TDI (yeah hes a nut), in the fall he drove over 3000 miles on a fishing trip and his worst mileage was 58 and his best was 62 on a tank of fuel. His cars all have a manual transmission and he's drives them to see what kind of mileage he can get.

Q: VW is releasing a Diesel Jetta that gets 40 mpg+ in the US. Anyone know exactly when?
I know is surposed to be in the next few months, but I can't seem to get a good hard date.

A: VW has made no official announcement since originally saying Spring of 2008 several TDI Club forums are buzzing with reports: that the diesel sedan will be further delayed until late summer 2008 because of a "technical issue that was found during the later stages of durability testing."

Q: having trouble timing my 00 vw jetta tdi diesel?
i have my crankshaft @ tdc w/reference to the mark in the bellhousing window, i have my camshaft @ tdc w /the camshaft locking tool, & my fuel injection pump locking pin will insert into the locking slot, all i can figure is somehow i am off on the fuel inj pump timing. can anyone help? thanks!

A: Comparing to a Rabbit. With the belt off.....On the fuel pump gear teeth(on the backside -towards the pump you will see 1 groove in it as you rotate that gear around. I believe the proper place for that groove is the 12 o'clock position Then it is set for Number 1 cylinder. Then it is a matter of sliding the belt on with the others remaining in their positions. Check after the belt is on by hand rotating the engine using a socket on the crank nut and see if you can go a full rotation without it stopping or sticking somewhere. (that sticking would mean a valve was hitting the piston) Return it backward and recheck your marks. Once you can do a full rotation with out any stops. tighten up the belt tensioner. You should be good.

Q: Should I be using synthetic oil in my vw diesel?
I have a 2000 Vw Jetta Tdi. Should I be using synthetic oil or is regular ok? I have never used synthetic oil in the 3 years I've owned my Jetta. Have I recked anything?

A: All VW models except those powered by the 2.0 liter non turbo motor since 2000, require syynthetic oil. However, since you have a diesel, yours requires an oil that will meet VW specification 504.000, of which only a specially made Castrol Synthetic meets this requirement that I know of. However, I understand that VW has issued a bullentin since 2005, which specifies what oils meet the 502.000 requirement (gas engines) and 504.000 requirement (diesel) motors. You are required to maintain the engine/powertrain warranty to use the correct oil. Since you are a second owner, the powertrain warranty is only for 5years/.60,000 miles so it probably is already out of this warranty. I have not seen or can verify this information, however, several sources say that a list does exist. You can probably obtain the information by calling VW during normal business hours M-F at 1-800-822-8987 and ask for owner relations. Having said this, it is always a good idea to use Synthetic Oil regardless, given the heat that is generated by a diesel and turbo powered motors. The sheer strength of a synthetic oil is much higher than a regular oil and has both a higher pour temperature before jellying up and staying liquid enough to pour in -20 degree cold. The importance of the oil to stand these temperatures cannot be overstated; indeed, there are benefits even to non turbo motors. On my own personal vehicle, I have 214,000 miles and still use less than 1/2 quart of oil at oil changes every 5,000 miles, very good for any motor and its likely that the motor will still be good when I either sell or otherwise retire my vehicle (due to normal aging, its 1998 model). Besides, studies have shown up to .5 mile per gallon fuel economy improvement vs regular motor oil or synthetic blends. Hope this helps, a car nut.

Q: 1990 vw jetta sunroof needs repair, someone please help... :)?

Q: when i start my 2000 VW jetta (its a standard) is sounds like a diesel?
it idles rough when i start it and when i turn it makes a hight pitched noise but when i drop it into neutral the noise goes away, but if i put it back ino gear the noise will come back and take a while to go away. are these two problems related? i just got an oil change the oil dip stick shows that is has a good amount of oil, and the diesel noise goes away after driving it for a while(it only happenes when it is idling, it idles at 900rpm)

A: Make sure there is oil in it... Jiffylubes and the like NEVER put the oil drain plug in tight enough. You drive away and you're out of oil. Happened to two friends of mine, one was lucky enough to get them to pay for it. Otherwise have someone check your oil pump, no matter what it is if your car sounds like a diesel (and isn't) it isn't getting enough oil, and YOU SHOULD NOT DRIVE IT. The whine doesn't sound like it is related to the diesel noise to me.
