Q: 2005 VW Jetta with Transmission problem?
Battery died and I blew the 110V fuse on the fuse box (attached to the battery), while driving to get a new battery the transmission started binding between 3rd and 4th gears. this is too conincidental as a tranny guy now suggest i need to drop the tranny on the car. He tried hoookingit up to the decoder(?) and is getting no new readings. another mech. tells me it could be an "adaptation"?
Help!
A: trans if its a manual the linkages probably need adjusted or the end bushings need replaced if its auto then you'll need to take it to a shop good luck
Q: 2005.5 VW Jetta Air bag light is on?
Recently I bought a salvage 2005.5 Jetta and the drivers air bag deployed. We replaced the air bag and had the modual reset however the airbag light still comes on. Any ideas on what else could be wrong? The airbag is installed correctly because its super simple. My bro hooked up a diagnostic program to it, and it couldn't find the air bag. Also, we replaced the drivers seatbelt too. The air (conditioning & heat) doesn't seem to work either if that matters.
A: Rule #1. If the SIR lamp is on, the system will not deploy. You will need an advanced scan tool, like the one we use to beable to interface with the module; furthermore, if the vw was in a wreck, and the bags and tensioners deployed, you will also need to replace the module.
One final note. I will use caps....ONLY A QUALIFIED TECH SHOULD REPAIR THE S.I.R. SYSTEM! People have died messing with them. All it takes is static electricity at the wrong point. Take to a qualified shop or a VW service. You will save $$$$ in the long run by not guessing and throwing parts at it.
Q: 2005 VW Jetta Fuses?
Hi all, i initially asked about why my radio wasnt working at all (not even going to safe mode), just blank.. and now other things are working... does anyone have a diagram of the fuses so i can check each of them that are affected?
Here are my problems now:
- Radio doesnt work at all
-Clock turns off when car is off and resets back to 12:00 when i turn the car on
-when i turn car off, gas and temprature stay where they were when car was on.
-lights are delayed to come on inside the car when door opens.
Do they all run like christmas lights, where if one is out, it affects the others???
Thanks all! I have the fuses and a fuse tester.. but im just so busy... i havent had radio since last monday.
ALSO,
-ESP ability (something to do with skidding??) is not working.
-High Beam on panel not lighting up(bright blue).. though the bright lights are working.
I called VW service dept and they said that i should bring it in to be scanned.. and it will cost me $65! what a rip off... im not feeding them anymore money.. so pleeease tell me this is all fixable on my own.
BTW this all started when my car died b/c of the battery and now these thigns are out.. Please please help! My car is my second home! I work far from home and I go to school all night.. thank you!!!
A: Sorry to have to tell you this, but you most likely have an electrical problem.I do not think it is as simple as a fuse.
You will have to get a diagnostic check of the electrical system.if your 2005 is still under warranty(and it should still be if your mileage is under 50,000)then your problem could be fixed under that warranty.Any dealer will need to charge you up front to check it out,but if it is a fix covered under warranty you will be charged nothing.Your 2005 Jetta came from the factory with a 4 year/50,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty. It should still be in place even if you are not the original owner. But getting it to a dealer to check out the system is the smart move.

Q: My radio is not working on my 2005 VW Jetta?
I have a factory radio. Today my battery died (of natural causes) and i replaced it with brand new interstate battery. but my radio doesnt work now and i cant stop the humming in my head.
I have tried looking in my book for the information but to no avail.
I tried playing with fuses, but to no workie either.
i need help! i have long commutes to work and i am sad that i can not listen to music..
please help me! I hope it is fixable. otherwise the humming in my head will be constant.
thank you!
not under warranty anymore, even though i have lease.
what fuse # is my radio? i tried to switch out #42 with another fuse( i didnt have a 25A) but it still didnt work. :-(
but if my radio is not displaying anything at all...... how can i type in a code?
A: After replacing a car battery, the radio goes into a SAFE mode (you will see SAFE on the screen and later changes to 1000).
This means the radio is the antitheft type, you just need to enter a 4 digit code (code should be in your radio handbook or owners manual) so the radio will work again.
Whenever power is interrupted, the radio gioes into such modes for theft prevention purposes.
I hope this helps.
Q: Why was the VW Jetta gli vr6 discontinued in 2005?
I'm considering buying a 2003, and everything I've read about it is positive. But, I'm wondering why it was only made for 2 years?
A: I could be wrong, but I beleive they replaced the VR6 engine with a 1.8t in the GLI range.
My friend has a Jetta VR6, he's not a fan of the car - poor fuel economy is one reason - he's had 2 Honda Accords before this car.
The VR6 is a heavy steel engine, the 1.8t is much lighter and fuel efficient.
Q: 2005.5 VW Jetta, brakes making high pitched noise??
My Jetta has 33,000 miles on it and when I got the car, it had around 29,000 miles. Ever since I have owned the car, the brakes (at least I think it is the brakes), make a very high pitched sound when I press on them very slowly. If I brake pretty hard, it doesn't make any noise at all, but when I brake slowly, the high pitched sound occurs.
I took it into the shop (it is covered by warranty) and they said there was rust on the brakes and they scraped it off, but as soon as I got it back, it is STILL making the noise. I called the dealership and told them about it, and they said the brakes have a lot of metal in them, so rust is very common, especially if the car gets wet and that it is just what happens?
Does anyone know how this can be fixed?
Also, I haven't had a regular service done to it. How much is the service at 35,000 miles? I just want a general idea, because I don't know at all how much it might be?
A: My 2004 Jetta sounds like it was having the same problem last month. It only has 17,000 miles on it. They also said it was rust (again it only has 17,000 miles on it and I park it in the garage). They said it wasn't covered, but I argued it with them. The brake pads were fine though. They replaced the rotors on mine and it seems ok now. I had a 2001 Jetta and I had to get new brakes on that one at 25,000 miles. The brakes suck on these cars, but I have had no other problems.
Don't quote me on this, and it will depend on where you live, but I think the 35,000 mile service is $600. I have never done the regular maintenance checks, especially if your car is under warranty anyways.
Q: Can I have your opinion on the VW Jetta? (experience only please)?
I'm about to by a 2004 or 2005 VW Jetta. They seem like the most amazing cars. Just looking for a few opinions before I close the deal. Have you owned one? Did it give you problems? Did you love it?
A: The Jetta as well of the rest of mid to mini sizes of VW are coming all in the same engine presentations:
1.8 T, 2.0, 2.2 TDi, V6
From the first to the last is real good performer, but not when you have automatic transmission, if you are looking for good performance and automatic transmission go for the V6, otherwise you will feel frustrated... the performance is lightly slow from 0 to 20, from 20 and over is acceptable to good...
This vehicle was born to be Manual, so get it manual and go for it...
The rest is simply a VW, no failures, great engine, eternal, extraordinary quality and the new releases are looking great and have a lot of equipment built“-in that no other has...
So go for it...

Q: Is a VW Jetta a good car for me?
I'm an 18 year old girl who will be attending college in the fall. I recently had a wreck and my Ford Contour was totaled so hopefully I will be getting a new car soon.
I really like the 2001-2005 VW Jetta, but I was wondering if it's a good car and hopefully someone can tell me more about them.
I will be living at my college, which is in a medium sized city, and will travel home on the weekends to my home, which is about 55-60 miles from school.
I need to know if the car is mechanically sound, how the gas mileage is, and other things. Or if it's just not a good car for me. If you have any other suggestions please tell me. I'm not totally sure of my price range at this point, but I know it's definitely not over $10k.
Thanks so much!
A: Personally, I love the Jetta very much, but Consumer Reports magazine has reported spotty reliability over the years. That's a long way home to travel with a possibly unreliable car every weekend. Also, beware of the gas mileage: not outstanding, and rather thristy.
On the positive side, handling is fun and the car is agile. Also, it has top-notch safety features that wouldn't normally be found on a car in the price range. Materials in the car are high above "economy car", but overall, I don't think this is the car for you. Sorry!
But wait! There are better cars, such as the Honda Civic, previous generation. They are very agile and much more reliable than a Jetta. (Again, according to Consumer Reports) Sure, it may not look as good, but it is safe and a total fuel sipper! You will hardly notice you're using any fuel. I think that would be a better car for you, considering your long miles on the weekend and the need for reliability.
The Toyota Echo could be an alternative, but it is slower, less agile and doesn't have as many safety features. It is probably more reliable than any used car (Toyota quailty) and is too a fuel sipper, but just doesn't appeal to many when put side by side to Civics.
I hope this helps you find a new car! Drive safely!

Q: 2003 VW Jetta GLS straight across trade for a 2005 Jeep Liberty Sport 4x4...?
2003 VW Jetta GLS 83,000km, straight across trade for a 2005 Jeep Liberty Sport 4x4 108,000km....Is this a good deal? They both are power locks/windows/mirrors, automatics, air/tilt/cruise, keyless entry, etc. But I know 2003 VW Jettas are black booked at a higher price then a 2005 Liberty....I don't want to get ripped off!! Opinions?
A: The 2005 Jeep is normally about $3,000 more than the 2003 VW according to the NADA book. However, that Jeep has an awful lot of miles for a 4 year old car. My question is why would the owner want to swap for an older and cheaper car straight up? Maybe he knows something about the Jeep that he isn't sharing with you. You might want to have a mechanic give it a thorough going over and critical evaluation first.
Q: How do I get out of a lease with VW??
I don't want to get out now but in a few months I do. I have a VW Jetta 2005 GS, we are going to get an Accord.
A: The easiest way to do that would be to trade in your jetta on the accord. make sure you negotiate with the dealer to get as close as you can to your payoff amount for your trade value. be prepared to part with a few grand as a down payment to cover the balance of your negative equity.
Q: Volkwsagen Jetta or Toyota Camry?
I am deciding between a 2005 VW Jetta 2.5, Package 2 and a Toyota Camry LE. The Camry is more expensive, but the VW has a whole bunch of neat features that make it seem nicer. Any advice on which I should get?
A: I had a VW Jetta; was the best car I ever had. I never had any issues with it except for the regular maintenance. All other cars I have owned have had trouble. As soon as I can, I am getting another Jetta!
Q: First Car ? Honda Civic Or VW Jetta ?
The honda civic was the car that i was looking at along with the VW Jetta. Looking in the range on Civic 2001- 2005 & Jetta - 1999- Now. My parents only want to spend under $ 5,500 I am 16
Which one is better out of the 2 ?
MPG ?
Overall ?
Any other suggestions ?
A: You also should compare car insurance quotes for different cars before buying one, for example here - autoinsurance.bebto.com
Q: Where should I go for new windshield wipers for my car?
I have a 2005 VW Jetta and I need new wiper blades desperately. I got some Michelin High Performance wipers a WalMart, but neither me nor my father can figure out how to get them on as the hole in the middle that attaches the blade to the arm is too small. What should I do? Should I try VIP or another parts place, or call up the dealership (dread) and see what they say?
A: Dealership=maximum price
Go to Pep Boys, they'll help you.
Also, pick up some "Rain-X". Clean your windshield really well, than apply this stuff, wipe off the excess and the water will sheet off faster than before. Really nice. I got blades for my VW Golf at Pep Boys; they have a little computer screen that helps you piuck the right blades. Also take your old blades in and someone will help you.
Q: Question about buying a car? (VW)?
Well I'm looking in buying a car tomorrow. Nothing brand new but i got a tough choice between 2 im having a tough time choosing which one. I'm a big Volkswagen fan. heres the choices...
2003 VW GTI turbo with 49k miles.
or
2005 VW Jetta GLS with all options but this one has 60k miles
both are in the mk4 series and both are 5 speed but idk. any suggestions?
A: Both are basically the same platform: the jetta has a trunk, the GTI a hatchback. The GLS will be slower because it doesn't have the turbo and it has more miles. I had a 2003 VW GTI with a 5-speed and loved it. The engine and transmission were great, but the seats and seatbelts were flimsy and finicky, and some interior plastics kept breaking. The hatchback is very convenient as well.
I now own a 2008 VW GTI (6 speed) and it is SO much better in every way. If you can swing it, I recommend looking at a 2006 or later model.
Q: Will a 2005-2008 Volkswagen Jetta Glove Compartment fit into a 2000 Jetta dashboard?
...without it looking terribly awkward? They all appear to be a similar shape/size.
I bought a used 2000 VW Jetta; one of the pieces of the glove compartment (the part of the dashboard) came chipped, so the glove compartment doesn't close all the way most of the time. Since I bought it, the handle has also come off of the glove compartment hatch itself, and I have to reinsert the handle, hold it in place, and open the glove compartment with the detached piece (which falls out if I let go, so I have to keep the handle itself stowed).
On ebay, there are a lot of 2005-2008 complete glove boxes of the proper colour, but not many complete glove boxes that will fit a 2000 Jetta, and none of the right colour. What I'm wondering is, could I buy one of the newer glove compartment units and have it fit my older model?
A: If the piece is a 2005 glove box piece, then it should fit, because the generation jetta you have is from 1999.5 to 2005. Then they changed the jetta to the new style for 2005.5 to present. I don't think it will fit if its a piece from a new jetta, but you could either compare looks or measurements to find out.
