Q: 2003 VW Jetta GL or 2005 Nissan Altima S?
If i could buy a 2003 VW Jetta with 51k miles for the same price as a 2005 Nissan Altima S with 74K miles which should I get?

A: the jetta would be the better choice. The jettas with the problems were the 1999-2001 models, so your fine. They're safe, fun to drive cars with good MPG, perfect for any driver. The nissan is asking for problems. You should not buy a car with 25k miles on it, and i don't care how reliable the name is, my experience with nissan wasn't so great. The jetta has below average miles. 51k miles in five years?

Q: Where is the power steering reservoir located in a 2003 VW Jetta gli?

A: Its funny, I work on VOLKSWAGENS everyday. And the powersteering reservoir is on the right side, or passenger side of the car. Next to the coolant reservoir. There is a green cap on top of it that has a large slit on top of it. A regular screwdriver is too small to turn the cap. A LARGE screwdriver or woodchisel, or putty knife works the best. How can someone call themselves VWMAN and not how to work on Volkswagens??? Volkswagen does not suggest using anything but volkswagen powersteering fluid. Mixing only contaminates the correct fluid that was in there in the first place.

Q: I have a 2003 VW Jetta, it just started creaking in the front end, any ideas?
My Jetta is making a creaking sound in the front end, seems to happen when I go over bumps at a slow speed (under 15 mph). It seems to do it only after it has been driven for a few. If I park it, open the hood, and psh down repeatedly to make the front end bounce it creaks, but I can't see any thing. I have 52k miles on the car. Any ideas would be great, Thanks!

A: It sounds like your springs are rubbing against the mounts. Try to squirt some WD-40 on the base of your springs and see if that helps. And it could be that your front end needs to be greased. the front end has several points that you put a greae gun on and squirt/fill with grease. this is fairly inexpensive and if you haven't had it done it won't hurt it either.

Q: What is wrong with the charging system on my 2003 VW Jetta?
Recently the abs and airbag light came on in my car and my husband realized it wasn't charging, so he took off the alternator and had it checked, it was fine at 14 volts. The fuse on top of the battery was blown and he replaced it and that seemed to fix the problem but the wire was very warm, however 3 days later the wire leading to that fuse "melted" and the fuse blew again. The battery light comes on but will go off if the engine is revved. Our car guy says there isn't a stater (sp?) on this car so we can't pinpoint the problem short of taking it to a dealership and giving up our firstborn to pay for the testing. Can anybody help? I NEED references with your answer, thanks!!! it is a 2.0 L

A: Sounds to me like you might have a faulty voltage regulator. Its a part in the alternator that keeps a consistent voltage and current discharge coming from the alternator. With out this the alternator will put out more and more amperage as it rotates faster with higher engine speeds. If it goes bad it is possible for you to get a good voltage reading at idle speed. However at higher engine speeds when the alternator is rotating faster it will put out a higher amperage than it is designed to. Your alternator should be a 90 amp generator. That is the maximum that the wiring in the car is designed to handle. So if the voltage regulator is bad you will have to replace the alternator as this is not a serviceable part on newer VWs. You can have this tested at most auto parts stores for free. You should also replace that fried wire. And check the fuse that your husband replaced and make sure that it is the proper amprage rating for that slot... because the new fuse should have blown before the wire started to melt... that gives me the impression that the amp rating on the fuse is to high.

Q: How do I change the headlights of a 2003 VW Jetta?

A: I don't know. Take it to the nearest mechanic.

Q: Can't get my car out of PARK gear, need help with VW Jetta 2003 problem.?
I have a 2003 VW Jetta 2.0 standard with automatic transmission. I cannot get the car out of park and have to wait a few minutes to do so. After the car warms up for a few minutes, then the car can go into drive. When the I step on the brakes, the brake light turns off but I cannot switch the gears. Has anyone had this problem or know of a way to resolve this issue I am having. This problem has occurred since I got the car, new. Thanks

A: Your warranty is still good. Take it to the dealer.

Q: How can I improve throttle response without compensating fuel efficiency in my 2003 VW jetta GL?
Is there a way to improve gas mileage

A: Put a more free flowing exhaust on it. It will free up some hp. And get a cold air intake, Then put some Bosh Platinum Plus 4 plugs in it and u will fell a big difference. I don't know about the fuel efficiency though u can't really get more power without loosing some fuel efficiency.

Q: how do i fix or reset my radio in my 2003 vw jetta?
well my radio doesnt say safe so i cant reset it but the only thing it will do is turn up and down the voulme but it wont change stations play cds or do anything else. any ideas what to do???

A: Don't listen to Mustang, it will lock the radio completely. Take your car to a VW dealership, explain the situation. They have to use the VAG-COM computers to reset the radio and then use the VWHub network to get the correct radio code.

Q: What's causing uneven acceleration in my 2003 VW Jetta 1.8 Turbo?
It seems to jump forward and then back right when the turbo kicks in at 1,800 RPM. It's never a problem with full thottle, but I've been trying to drive gently to save gas. I'm thinking either mass air flow sensor or bypass valve, but don't want to bring it in.

A: Take it to a shop! It sounds like a MAF sensor, but so many things can cause lurching. I know it sucks to pay for diagnostics but it's cheaper than throwing parts at it & hoping you get lucky. Good luck. PS Mabey you should listen to XUSAAAgent Because like I said just tossing parts at it is a great place to start! BTW If you have a bad coil BIG RECALL! Repalcing them by the truck load for free on most cars!

Q: My 2003 Jetta VW won't shift out of park when I turn it on..what to do?
I just recently bought it, and I don't have a manual. Help!

A: VW has had a recall out on their brake light switch. If the brake light switch broke, it won't let you shift into gear. To see if the brake light switch is broken, step on the brake pedal, and have someone go behind the car and see if the brake lights turn on. If they don't turn on, then the brake light switch is the most likely cause. Call your local dealership with your VIN number and see if your car is covered under the recall.

Q: how do i fix/reset my radio in my 2003 vw jetta?
well my battery went dead now my radio wont but out any sound or change chanels. my mother in law said she had the same proplem with her old vw and they had to reset the radio any body have any ideas

A: I could be wrong, but I think you may have some sort of theft lock on the radio. If so, you should contact a local VW dealer with your VIN# to get a code and they should be able to give you instructions on how to unlock the radio.
