Q: VW Golf Mk3 1.9 TD Rear Electric Window Switch problem?
Hello - I have a 1993 1.9 TD Mk3 VW Golf, and I have a really funny problem. The rear left window is not working - stopped suddenly the other day. When I use the switch on either the dashboard or the door, the window does not go up or down, but the sunroof opens and closes.
Can anyone help ?
A: something has shorted in the fusebox.

Hello all i have a mk3 golf and when i change gear it does not go back to the neautral postion, i think it could be something to do with, a broken spring, can anyone confirm this for me, and is it easy to fix thanks everyone
A: hi tony! first thing to check is the gear linkages,these are very prone to seizing up, wot to do is get a mate to work the gears and you spray the linkage with wd40 or something similar to you get to the stage when the links are free .
indecently the linkages are rods that sit on top of the gearbox

Q: i just replaced the gear knob on my car (vw golf mk3) and i get a loud bang when put into reverse?

when i put it into reverse i hear a loud bang and then i just turn off the car, but i then tried it again and it reversed fine, then i reversed again and the bang came back, any ideas?

robert h - i unscred the gear knob and was left with a metal rod and i screw the new one back onto that?
A: Just put the old one back on and see if you still get the bang and if you do it has nothing to do with the knob that you put on, it means you have other problems.

Hi,
My car appears to have an intermittent fault this has happened twice in a month. Was driving my car which suddenly lost power and stopped. When trying to start it the battery light is on and the engine pressure light is flashing when the engine is trying to turn over. It wont re-start and will once left for some considerable amount of time it will start again with no apparent problems.
Any suggestions /similar problems? Any idea if it is easy to fix.

How would I find if it is ignition or fuel related? When it did this the car was trying to turn over when thhe key was turned but wouldn't fire up.
A: first off check oil , water , battery water level , like today it is obviously a serious fault and if it is stopping then no motorway driving or above 30 until it is rectified check for recall on the golf sure there was a similar problem causing an accident . good luck .

A: Vw's usually have icons to tell what they are for, you have the left and right turn signal, the battery icon lights if your alternator is not charging, the glow plug icon lights to show when the glow plugs are on, and when it goes off, you can start your engine. There is a icon of an engine with a bar across it, it is the check engine light, there is a icon that is red with a with a circle with a drop in the middle,that is the oil pressure light, comes on when the oil pressure is low. the is a icon of a person in a seat, that is the seat belt light, There is a bulb icon that is blue, that lets you know you have your headlights on high beam. I can understand the confusion, I have several older vw's, which just had led's that light up to tell you whats happening. It would be better to switch to gauges, so you know exactly what's happening. They don't call them idiot lights for nothing.

ive just bought my first car and i havent got it yet. so im surfing the net just now looking at alooys for the car but now im wishing i looked or asked what the size of wheels are ooops! can anyone help
A: Is it new. Usually they are 15s or 16s, but if you are getting new rims then it doesn't matter. You just need to match the 5x lug pattern. My VW came with 15s. I would assume that yours are going to 15's because the golfs are smaller cars. They are great cars

My insurance company are questioning the wheels fitted to my car although the man i spoke with did think that VW fitted them to certain models that year? When i purchased the car (used) i was told that they were fitted by VW new, however does anyone know how i can check its Original spec?

A: Very simple, visit the parts department of the closest VW dealer and ask him/her the same question. Unless you encounter a nut case, you'll get the straight scoop.
Q: Do you know if a 96 vw golf mk3 engin can fit in a 96 vw polo?
A: I dont think so. The Polo was offered in Europe with the 1.9l diesel engine from the Golf but had to be modified to fit in the smaller engine bay of the Polo. So the stock engine would most likely not fit

It seems very low powered for a 2.8 Litre engine.
A: Just checked, 174bhp from a 2.8 petrol V6. Pathetic, wasn't it?
No surprise really since VW petrol engines have never really been on the pace, power wise. It's as if they only make petrol engines to show off how good their Diesels are by comparison.
Around the same time, they also did a 1.8 4-cylinder petrol unit which wheezed out a dizzy 75bhp!

A: no these vehicles are not chavvy but it would be hard to find one that does not have the nuts thrashed off it. maclaren
Q: Does anybody know if a set of MK4 VW Golf seats will fit into a MK3 VW Golf without a lot of work?
A: Someone asked this on here quite recently. I think the front ones are a straight swap, so long as they're both from a car with the same number of doors. (If you put seats from a 5dr into a 3dr, how are you going to get into the back without the release lever?)
The back seats are a different shape altogether, since the Mk4 is a wider car than the Mk3.

What should he look for when buying one of these cars. Plus what goes wrong on the engines so he knows what to look for. Thank you kindly.
A: The VR6 engine is a tough unit and not a lot usually goes wrong with them.
Try and get one with low miles or FSH with high miles.
The Highline VR6 is the best one with additonal extras.
This is probably the best second hand buy for a 10 year old plus car.
