Q: VW Golf MK III 1.9 GTD (year 1994) specifications and comparison with TDI version?
Hi, I just bought me a VW Golf III GTD with 1.9 volume engine (model year 1994), I could not find much information about the GTD engines and how they compare with TDI engines. Could anyone give me detailed information about the GTD and TDI engines and tell which one is better. Thank you.
A: Have you check with the local VW club... They have a lot of info on all VWs....Good Luck!
Q: How do I change the oil sump on a MK3 VW Golf?
I've cracked the sump on my 1994 MK3 Golf 1.4. Is it a just a case of draining the engine oil, unscrewing the old sump and putting the new one on, or is it more complicated?
A: no gasket on a sump on a vw golf i am afraid its special sump sealant available at your local main agents
Q: 1994 1.4 liter VW golf. Which wires on the throttle body goes to the IAT sensor?
there are three plugs on the throttle body, one i think is the throttle position sensor, the other is for the idle speed servo, and there is a third plug with four wires.. which two wires go to the IAT sensor?
i dont think its on the intake box, the boot, or the intake manifold as i cant see any sensors on there. i think it is combined with the mass air flow sensor.. hence the plug with four wires..
yes... i am fitting a resistor chip..
A: None. the intake air temp will be located in the manifold itself, the air cleaner box or the boot from the box the throttle body.
Sometimes it can be part of the mass airflow sensor also.
Q: 1994 Volkswagen Golf Engine Knocking?
I have a 94' VW Golf, and just a few days ago I noticed the engine knocking. Mostly when its idling. When I drive its not so strong. Could this be the Engine mount, or am i looking at something more time and money consuming?
A: Check your oil level and viscosity. Sometimes people will put cheap oil in their car and it thins out. Try changing the oil and see if it quiets the engine. If it doesn't bring it to a mechanic. Knocking can mean a lot of things, a lot of which are serious but simple fixes.
Q: How do I disconnect my alarm from my car?
I have a 1994 VW Golf and I am missing the door lock in my driver's door and the only way to turn off my alarm is through the passenger door lock but that no longer rotates. So I need to disconnect my alarm so I can drive my car. Any help?
A: I'm not an alarm person, but don't most alarms power off the car battery? Just remove the wire from the battery that powers the alarm. I can't stand alarms anyway, they go off so frequently that people just carry on their business and pay no attention to them. This goes from parking lots to the street at night, nobody even checks to see if its really a break-in, because usually its not.
Q: What's the best way to update a car's exhaust for performance?
I plan on upgrading my exhaust system for my car which is a 1994 VW Golf but I haven't any idea which way is the best. Are there mufflers that are good and ones that are bad? Has any one ever heard of high flow catalytic converters and if so what do they do? Does my resonator in my car serve a purpose or would it be bad if I took it out?
A: I'm assuming you mean a race cat.
They are a "straight through"catalytic converter.
A race cat, headers and low backpressure muffler will give you a little extra performance; but, probably not as much as you would think...additionally and VERY important.....a race cat. will satisy the law ONLY in the requirement of HAVING a catalytic converter; however, if you have emissions/smog testing laws in your area...it might not pass.
Headers and other exhaust mods will enhance other mods (turbos, superchargers, NOS.. etc) but they're not going to give you an extra 50 or 100 horsepower, alone.
You can get race cats at places like Summit, Jegs...etc
Q: Is this an ignition switch problem or just a loose connection?
My car stereo stopped working and the same time it stopped working my door chime to tell me my door is ajar or open stopped working. Is this caused from a faulty ignition switch that can't recognize the key is in, or could it be a faulty electrical connection? It's a 1994 VW Golf III, after market stereo.
A: You have a problem in the S contact. Replacing the ignition switch will fix your problem
Q: Eclipse or Golf?
Should I buy a 1995 Eclipse or a 1994 VW Golf?

I bought whole thing from NEUSPEED
Q: I Have a VW Golf Power Steering Problem......?
In WET weather my steering 'sometimes' locks when I am turning. It seems related to my speed, the faster I am going the tighter the lock, and sometimed judders then carries on turning. I am very careful about turning now but even at 5-10mph it still happens. Any clues???
Its a Mk3 1994 2.0 GTI - Standard build.
I am sorry I made you angry, maybee you should have a lie down and think of pretty things for a while.
I am well aware of the dangers and the garage (A VW dealer) could find noting wrong with it. I was wondering if this is a common issue withVW's that VW dont want us to know about hence my question he and not on a VW Blog site.
Thanks for your comments though. I will be careful if it starts to rain again. It s an intermittent fault, that means it only happens infrequently by the way.
A: 2.0 8V, only when it rains...hmmm
Couple lousey answers in here but I see one that is good but incomplete.
Yes new belt and when belt is off check the twin pully on the water pump, there is a speed comensation clutch between the two V grooves and this pully can go bad too. The Belt is done, change it no mattter what else you find.
Note the pump doesn't just go bad during a shower then miraculously heal when it is dry- jeesh, money waster!
I would flush the fluid just because you have never done it before and should do it once in a while, OK?

Q: Car won't start in cold weather!?
I have a 1994 VW Golf and just in the past few days, on cold mornings only, it won't start. It turns over a few times and all the lights on the dash flash and then the clock resets and everything else dies. I just got a new battery last summer. Most of the electrical components are about 5 years old. I don't know what an alternator is but maybe that could be the problem?
A: get a cheap multimeter, or ac/dc voltimeter, you can check the battery quick, and have someone crank it when you start it it it drops then you have no cranking amps and need a new battery. the extreme cold on a cheap battery will make it drain power.
Q: VolksWagon Golf?
How much will a vw golf 1.6 cl 1994 L reg with 137K miles cost , just an average price ?
A: £50 scrap value, if that engine is original its definately tired by now.
Q: Help With VW Jetta 3 transmission Part Description?
Hello,
I have recently discovered a leak in my transmission where it seems to be the cooling system (i think) for the transmission fluid. I have attached a picture that I found on the internet of my exact engine and car... It is dark here and I am unable to post a current picture of the part I am talking about. Any ways, It is located in the box on the picture in the link I have attached and the part name (which is engraved on the top) is in the speech bubble but also is here (Langerer & Reich LRO) I have looked up this name and can not find it for crap on the internet. The part is retivley square and has 2 alan bolts in the top of it. The bolts are what I need the name of or even the thing that they are in... they are about 3 - 4 inches long and have holes in them that look as to pass fluid through the bolts. If you could be of any help PLEASE HELP! because all i need to do is buy another one of those bolts and I will be good :) please and thanks.
if you have any websites that could help please send them to me :)
this is the link to the picture of my engine :)

A: It sounds like you are talking about the trans. oil cooler. It's hard to tell, it would be helpful to have a little more detail. If it looks like an aluminum rectangle with 2 hoses connected to it, and it is leaking around those bolts, you probably just need to get the gaskets which are called crush washers. Make sure the old ones are off and where the bolt contacts the cooler is clean and tighten them down until the rings squish slightly.
