Q: Where can I get another Service History booklet for VW Golf?
Hi, I just bought a VW Golf '01. The previous owner has taken really good care of it and the Service Schedule (service history) part of the Manual shows regular services and stamps.
However all the pages in the booklet have been used up. And I want to keep a record of the times I get it serviced. Where can I get another booklet or more pages to add in to the Service Schedule?
A: please just use your common sense...go to a Volkswagen Dealer, be nice and ask politely or even better...get into contact with Volkswagen HQ in germany. i,m sure they will help you !
Q: Which oil to use for VW Golf Mk4 1.6 ?
My golf mk4 is a 1.6 8V, i have booked a service in for next week, i just wonder would it be better if i bought some engine oil like Castrol edge or Mobil 1 for them to change rather than use the dealer's one?

A: use the dealers one,then they are responsible for the work,they will write down the particulars of the service on a service record and give it to you.thats your proof if it goes belly up!
Q: Are 100w H7 bulbs safe to use in a '04 VW Golf?
Winter is upon us in the Northwest, and I'm constantly driving in the dark (8am it's dark on the way to work, 5pm it's dark on the way home). One of my low beam bulbs has gone out, and I thought i'd upgrade from the standard 55w bulbs. Will 100w bulbs fry my wiring harness?
Is a HID upgrade kit something to consider? What about the legality of something like that?
A: The 100w bulbs shouldn't be used. Not sure if it will fry the wiring harness but I upgraded my bulbs and ended up getting pulled over. Cop cited me for my lights being too bright. I had to revert back to the 55w. Fortunately no ticket and just a warning.
Q: Im 18 and have bought a VW Golf 1.9TDI 3 Door which Best insurance company,I can use my mum as main driver?
Im 18 and have bought a VW Golf 1.9TDI 3 Door,I can use my mum or dad as the main driver but which is the cheapest to get insued with so far ive found £2,000.Please any help would be much apreciated

I bought a Nissan Almera in '05 and was very surprised to learn no cambelt bills, ever, cos it used a chain !!

Q: 1999 VW Golf: how do I get the stereo out of safe mode in order to put in the code to use the radio again?
I changed the battery and didn't know I needed a code to use the radio again. I tried to put in what I thought was the code, and now I am totally locked out. I found a code in the trunk and want to attempt to try that, but I need to get out of "locked mode" to do so! This is a used car and I do not have the owner's manual... please help.
A: key in ignition in the run position for 1 hour resets safe mode so you can put that code in
if you need specifics, go to the dealer, they usually will do it for free right in the service drive, but the suggestion above does work

The owner handbooks says use a quality semi synthetic 10w-40. He used a quality semi synthetic 5w-30 oil. Thank you.
A: Not gonna hurt unless your live in Baker CA and drive to Barstow in the summer a lot. Should be fine till next change. If you have real winters with below zero temps I would use the 5W-30 during that season anyway.

Q: Anyone bought a new or used car and couldn't drive it properly at first?
Passed my driving test in a new Honda Jazz could drive it perfectly, no problems. Have just bought a VW Golf (used) and took it for a test drive.... I was kanagrooing, over revving engine, problems with biting point... you'd have thought I'd never driven a car before it was that bad !!! Has anyone else had this problem....I mean got a different car and had problems getting used to it? Is this normal or is it just me? The guy at the garage then drove it...and he drove it fine no problem. My confidence has gone down the pan.

I have had 3 of the same model of car one after the other and they were different as chalk and cheese. Each clutch is different and you just need to get the feel of them!
Practice on a quiet road to get your confidence, you will be away before you know it!
Q: Could I feasibly transplant the suspension system from a Citroen into a VW Golf?
Or any other car for that matter? I love the suspension from old citroen xantias, BX's etc... they're so good that nowadays Bentley and Rolls Royce use them. So I'd like to put some in my VW.
A: As far as swapping parts, almost certainly not. Even if it would fit, the suspension has to be matched to the car's weight and performance. Even the same car with a different engine in it will have a different suspension from the factory.
What is it that you like about the suspension in our Citroen? Find a forum for the VW, and ask about an aftermarket suspension that will give you the same benefits. www.vwvortex.com is a starting point, but there are many, many forums to discuss VW cars.
Q: How do i fix/install remote central locking in my VW Golf?
I have bought an 'M' reg golf and the central locking doesn't work. I don't know if this model should have central locking or not and how i would fix it if it did. I have a small child so if I could install remote central locking it would make my life so much easier, but could really use some advice! Thanks
A: Call the dealer and ask. Phone calls are cheap. Every Golf I've seen since '98 has had a central locking feature. If you bought it used, it may not be working.
Q: My check engine light is on in my 1997 VW Golf?
I got the tranny fixed about two weeks ago, and I think they changed the idle because it idles lower than it used to. It also chokes off sometimes when the a/c is on. Just today the "check engine" light came on. Could the two be related? Any ideas would be cool. I threw enough money into this thing already.
A: Yes it is poss. they did something wrong. If they did anything to the transmission or had the battery disconnected for a long time. After doing trans repairs the Idle adaptation & kick down (if it's an automatic) need to be relearned. It's a common problem. If you took it to a good shop then they should'nt have a problem checking codes & finding out if it has anything to do with their work. Just tell them it hasnt been right since the repairs were performed. Good luck.
Q: How do you lift steering wheel in '96 VW Golf?
I have long legs and I'm in my car and I don't know if the wheel adjusts to move up or not. I moved my seat back to help but I don't have a clue. It's used and had no manual.
A: Only certain mkIII models came with an adjustable "clamshell" surround. It might be something you could pick up relatively cheap at a salvage yard so you can have the adjustabillity. The models that came with the adjustable piece are the 'sport' models such as the GTi and Jetta GLX. Also the Wolfsburg edition Jetta, the Trek, GT and K2 models had them.

I am about to purchase an HID Conversion Kit for my Golf because I do alot of motorway driving and I'm hating my halogen lights because my previous car had HID lights. Just want to be sure before I order.

A: Don't know, go buy yourself an HGV dump valve fitted as standard. They were not designed for cars they were designed for trucks, why are they suddenly being used as a vehicle fashion accesory just because they hiss?

Hey i'm thinking of buying a used car, preferably a VW Golf
(2001-2003) But i was told to stay away from a 1.4 engine & to buy a 1.6 model because the 1.4 petrol give alot of bother.
Is this true ??

A: I drive a 2001 1.4 Seat Leon which has generally the same engine in it and i can honestly say it is not underpowered, it has decent torque, its good on petrol and ive not had any trouble with it at all, so id go for the 1.4 and save a few quid in the long run. Hope i helped.
