Q: 2005 VW Golf GT TDi, White Smoke Coming Out Exhaust ?
hi , just got car back from body shop, when i drive the car seems to be alot of white smoke coming from the exhaust , and seems to be used alot of water, what could it be ? mac20586@hotmail.com please email if you are familiar with these cars

A: Definitely sounds like a bad head gasket to me. White smoke normally means water/coolant. The most likely route for it to get into your exhaust is through a bad head gasket.

Q: My keyless entry on my 2005 VW Golf still works but the range has decreased...Battery new but bad still....?
I replaced the battery and the remote still works but the range still stinks....I used to be able to lock/unlock from over 30 ft away now maybe 3-5 ft....Maybe the IR reciever is covered?

A: it could be the actual keyless entry key fob, probably just its starting to wear out from being used and the signal being sent isn't as good, also you can try different angles, i kind of had that same thing with my older one that i got with my truck but when i bought a new one it worked from about 50 feet when with the older one i had to be right up at the truck like yours is now

Q: What faults are there on the VW Golf mk5 1600cc fsi se reg dec 2005?

A: It uses petrol. Try a nice pryus

Q: What faults are there on a VW Golf mk5 1600cc fsi se reg dec 2005?

A: mk5 golfs have a number of common faults 1- the v157 motor (throttle body motor) over heats causing the fuse to blow, vw should be able to do this under warranty if the emmisions light comes on the dash, 2- the radios dont store stations and a software update is required, again can be done under warranty 3- some golfs have theincorrect flywheel fitted. this is a vw recall and can be checked and rectified at any franchise dealer 4- the outer door seals fall off alot, can be fixed under warranty, may cause wind noise and/or water leaks, thats all i can think off right now but will update if i remember anymore 5- tandem pump recall, theres a pump that makes the fuel and air mix more efficiently, it has a recall where the bolts require changing and sometimes the gaskets. this may not apply to your vehicle as the type of pump varies between an LUK or BOSCH pump

Q: VW Mk IV (1999.5-2005) Golf/Jetta TDI?
Hey im looking to replace my GTI in the summer with preferably a 2dr Golf or Jetta TDI, i would just like to know a ball park price for them, and maybe a website so I can get the individual specs on them, they always seemed to be grouped or classified as the same cars when i read reviews, basically the only thing I am looking for in a review would be the curb weight of them, so if you could tel me that, that too would be awesome

A: prices vary by condition and location, can't tell you ball part since it could be $5000-15,000. here is a checklist of stuff to look for when buying a TDI http://www.myturbodiesel.com/1000q_how_to/a4/newowner.htm 2 door will be harder to find and will probably be a base GL car

Q: VW golf mk5 1600cc fsi se 2005 16,000mls?
strange noise like fast ticking of clock that speeds up with car speed coming from right hand top vent. noise comes and goes, more often when hot.cannot hear when reving at standstill.anybody any idea. Right hand drive.

A: Unless it's a very early 2005, it should still be in warranty. Take it to a VW dealer.

Q: should I buy a 05 VW golf GTI or 03 Nissan 350Z?
should i buy a 2005 Volkswagen golf gti or 2003 Nissan 350Z? they're in the same price range, i'm not sure what to choose. I'm 25 years old, male. thanks in advance for any advice!

A: If you live somewhere where it snows in winter or rains a lot, get the GTI. The GTI also has back seats and a large trunk and better fuel economy and low maintenance costs. The 350z only seats 2 people, is RWD, and has a very tiny trunk. I have driven both cars and they are equally fun. The 350z is much faster, but the GTI is the smarter choice. I would go with that.

Q: VW Golf GT TDI (end of 2005)Exhaust Emissions Warning Light ?
Exhaust Emissions Warning Light has come on, along with 'emissions, garage'. Is this just a lambda sensor, is it right that there are four of these, two pre catalytics convertor, 2 post cat? I thought deisel engines didn't have cats? Am I doing the car any damage by driving it for a week or two before i get it sorted? Is it true that it will just use more fuel and that it wouldn't pass the mot. Also, it couldn't just be due to the cold weather at all, could it as it has only appeared in the last few days ince it has got milder (we had minus 10 degrees at new year) and my friend's Audi has done the same thing recently. Any info appreciated - thanks.

A: This is a warning lamp for a 'Diesel Particulate filter'. Basically its a filter located in the exhaust system which collects soot particles to prevent excessive smoke at the tailpipe. The cars control computer will perioically check the soot level using pressure sensors, and will periodically clear the filter when the exhaust and engine temperatures are both high enough by altering the fuel timing slightly, you are unlikely to notice any difference in the drivabiltity during this clearing process (called regeneration). The best time for regeneration to occur is at sustained motorway speeds and can last from 10 to 15 minutes approximatley. If you drive constantly in town doing stop start driving this cloggs the filter and does not allow the regeneration to take place hence the lamp is on. As the exhaust lamp is accompanied by an extra warning lamp it may require a dealer 'forced regeneration'. Before you do this, take the car onto the motorway and keep it over 50mph for as long as possible (safely of course). In total drive the car for at leat 30 minutes to allow the temperature of the exhaust system to raise and maintain a hot filter. This basically encourages the cars computer to start a regeneration cycle. After the long run just allow the car to idle for 10 minutes to allow the system to complete any unfinished cycle. The lamp should go off by itself if this has cleared it but you may need to shut the car off then re-start to allow the computer to run self checks. If this doesn't help then it's off to the dealer for the 'forced regeneration' or possibly a new filter (not cheap). Same advice for your friends Audi. Good luck.

Q: w reg vw golf auto when warm wont go into reverse any ideas?
new gear box fitted in 2005 by previous owner but when the engines warmed up it wont go into reverse , all other gears are fine ,anyone have any ideas ? will it cost much to fix it ?

A: Reverse gear on a auto box requires half as much oil pressure again for reverse to forward gears. As in 100psi forward, and 150psi reverse, random figures by the way,so it does sound like low oil as a first step.

Q: Volkswagen Golf or Honda Accord? Or...any other ideas?
My fiance and I are getting tired of driving around beaters. Therefore, we are looking into buying a new car. We would both prefer an import, and refuse to buy anything that does not have a manual transmission. I'm looking at a 2005 VW Golf. It's a 5-Speed, and only has 15K miles on it, and they are asking 17 grand for it. He found a 2005 Accord EX 5-Speed with 26K miles on it, and they want 22 thousand. Which car do you think we should buy? Or are there any other models do you think we should try to find? We don't really care what it is, just as long as it's an import with a manual transmission

A: All of them are reliable choices. Go fo WV if you can offord high price for spare parts ( if the car is insured then it shouldn't be a problem) , better still is the Honda City ( more economic than the German cars and engine is better no doubt)

Q: VW Golf VR6 Turbo/mod help?
I am getting a car in may, my dad is co signing for a non-turbo car only, i know it sucks. so when i get the car i am going to turbo it with my own money. I was looking at the golf vr6's 2000-2005. i am new with vw's so i need some help. what is the mk3, mk4, mk's? what is the difference? What is the best? what has the most potential? would this turbo be fine? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JDM-START-TWIN-TURBO-KIT-VW-GOLF-JETTA-AUDI-CORRADO-VR6_W0QQitemZ260363797883QQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohosting any more information would be awesome!!!

A: Ok first off, the "mk" are basically the models/bodystyles. Right now it goes from mk1 to mk5 (oldest to newest). The golfs from 2000-2005 are considered mk4. the previous years are mk3 mk2 and mk1. The newer the model, usually the more reliable it is. Also if the model is newer there will be more parts that are available. As of right now mk4's have the most tuning capabilities. If you are going to turbo your car I would recommend getting a turbo made specifically for vws. Its gonna cost you around $2000 to $4000. Also make sure to know whether the vr6 is a 12valve or 24valve. here are some samples: http://www.ctsturbo.com/catalog/MK4_24V_VR6_Turbo_Kits-38-1.html http://www.ctsturbo.com/catalog/MK4_12V_VR6_Turbo_Kits-46-1.html

Q: VW Golf question.?

A: Yes tilt and telescope

Q: Turbo In a VW Golf???
I have a 2005 Volkswagen Golf. (1.6) I am wondering if I should put in a turbo or is it worth just buying a V6? Thanks or a supercharger.... Which [supercharger or Turbo] would be better for my golf? Thanks

A: Of the three options you mentioned, the turbo will give you the most bang for your buck.

Q: 2005 05 Reg VOLKSWAGEN Golf addin a sub?
does anyone no if u can add a subto the standard head unit u get with vw golf. if not does anyone no any good sites i could buy a new head unit. thanks for any advice given

A: well personally i would have all off it professional fitted, a family member off mine is a training mechanic(works only on mercedes and bmw) and he does electrics and everything but he won't touch them due to ruining the cars dealer warranty which your car should still be under? and also you get the piece off mind that it won't go wrong. i would recommend this site which the garage he works for only buys from and they should have bits for your volkswagen(all motor stores, auto cruisers, www.autocruisers.co.uk)
