Q: Why is my 2003 VW Golf having trouble shifting into 4th gear?
I am having problems shifting into 4th gear of my 2003 VW golf. When I try to shift, the clutch is completly engaged and the gears grind a little bit. Some have said it is the 4th gear syncro, but im not sure
A: IT IS THE SYNCRO. contact VW to see if there is a recall on this tranny.
Q: Want to Trade in my 1999 VW Golf 2Dr Hatchback?
I was trying to use Kelly blue book to estimate my car value but not sure which category it falls in to? Anyway it's a 1999 VW Golf 2Dr Hatch back with 124,000 miles. ABS is not functioning and some scratch around the bumper. Is that poor or fair condition? You know how much I could possibly get for a trade-in?
A: id have to say poor if your abs is not working.
Q: How much would it cost to replace a computer on a 1994 VW Golf, 2.0?
My partner has a VW Golf (1994) and it may need a new computer - we're wondering if it's worth the cost, and how much is that cost?
Thanks!
A: I don't know exactly how much but for a 2000 Vw Jetta it costs $150 at a local salvage yard. At the dealership it is around $450 plus you have to reprogram the computer. Call a local salvage yard or at car-parts.com
Q: How do I fit reclining sports seat in a vw golf mk 4 (2000). Any help or links appreciated. Thanks.?
I have bought reclining bucket seats and subframes for my Vw Golf Mk4 but am not sure how to fit them. Has anyone done it and could help, i know vw golfs are commonly modified with racing seats so i know it can be done, just not sure how. Any help much appreciated, Thanks.
A: Depending on whether these are equiped with air bags, you might have an issue with the air bag light and fitting the connectors. Here's a good site for modding your VW:

It's a free, owner-oriented website where you can search for a similar issue or post your own.
Q: How to get more performance out of a 99 VW Golf GLS?
I have a 1999 VW Golf GLS, 2.0L 4 cylinder engine, 5SPD Manual. It has 153,000 Mi on it. I just changed out spark plugs, fuel filter, and oxygen sensor on the cat. converter. I was wondering if anyone knew anything else i could install or replace to get more performance out of it.
Before I forget I don't mean anything to expensive.
A: there is not much you can do so if I were you I wouldnt do anything ecxept a cold air intake very cheap so this way your fuel economy would be the same you wouldnt harm the engine
and I just want to let you know that I put a K&N air filter on my 2002 nissan but it didnt help nothing so no difference at all
waste of money
Q: How do I get to the thermostat on a 1995 VW Golf?
I am trying to change the thermostat on my VW Golf but can not figure out how to get to it. Please help
A: It's installed on the bottom of the water pump housing. It has the lower
radiator hose attached to it. Make sure you observed the position of
the thermostat and seals during removal. You will need to go to your
dealer and get the thermostat, gasket, coolant. Approx 1 hour to replace. And another 30 minutes to fill and bleed the cooling system.
You do know how to bleed the system don't you? Torque specs on the housing bolts are 10NM. Good luck!
Q: Does anyone know where I can find a body kit for a VW II Golf?
I have just got my hands on a 1988 VW Golf 2 door sedan. I am looking to change up some things on the car to give it a more updated look. I would like to work on the exterior first and add on a body kit but have not been having much luck finding a full kit. If there are any other kits that may fit with some small adjustments please let me know this also. Thank you!
A: Strictly Foreign is probably your best bet.
That said, most people prefer to put the big bodycolor bumpers from the 90-92 MKII's. Some add (with slight modification) the Euro MKIII VR6 front spoiler which looks pretty good. European G60 Golf front arches are also popular, they make the car look wider.
So many cool options with those cars. I'm sort of out of touch with that whole scene but it was kinda trendy for a while to delete all trim, moldings and arches, while using the older thin blade bumpers from the euro 85-89 cars. I thought that also looked good in a different way.
Do whatever you like best , MKII's are a great choice regardless.

Q: What is an easy way to boost hp in VW Golf?
I have a 1997 VW Golf that is as slow as crap. What is a cheap and easy way to boost my hp?
A: Cheap? Easy? No such thing. Buying another car would be the cheapest way to boost your HP.
Buy a GTI, it'll be cheaper than putting money into your car.
Q: Are other people having problems with their VW Golf or other model?
I just purchased a VW golf and now the MIL light came on. I checked the manual and it said that it may be b/c the car has been idleing. I did idle the car shortly before it came on. Are other people having fickle problems with their VW?
I've been looking over reviews for the VW golf and they look grim.
i have a 2003 VW Golf
54000 miles
A: Idling will not turn on the check engine light. A gas cap that is not properly tightened could illuminate the MIL light. Other than that you will need to get the car diagnosed with a OBD 2 computer or Vag COM from VW. What engine do you have? TDI will be the least problem prone at least with my experiences. 2000-2002 were pretty bad in terms of quality control.
Q: How do you use Cruise Control on VW Golf TDI?
I have just purchased a new VW Golf and i am wondering how to work the Cruise Control. Do i need to set it to a certain speed, how does it kick in?
Also how does the Ipod work, ive plugged it in but nothing come up on the radio. Any info?
A: Read the manual, it will answer all your questions. If your radio is not ipod compatible, it's won't work.
Q: How much would a rebuild be on a 97 vw golf transmission?
I'm looking into buying a 97 vw golf from a private seller on craigslist and he said that the tranny tends to slip sometimes but he didn't know if it was fluid or a rebuild...worse case scenario how much would it cost me to rebuild the tranny altogether
A: i agree with the other guy on a few things. get a used one from the junk yard or find someone that is parting one out. and do get a better manual than a Haynes. that is what i have and it helps sometimes but most of the time it is way off and doesn't give you much help.
