Q: My 1999 VW Golf GTI VR6 is not starting, help?
I recently changed out my oil pan after cracking it. Afterwards, I put 4 quarts of oil in, tried to start it up and it the engine wouldn't turn over. A friend of mine said you have to turn the key to "On" and let it sit for a while to let the oil pressure rebuild. Did that and still no results. When I cracked my oil pan, I drove it about 1/2 a block with no oil at about 10 mph, then another 1/2 block with oil in it while the pan was still cracked. I'm hoping my engine did not seize. Any ideas or suggestions? It is a 1999.5 (mk4) VW Golf GTI with the VR6 engine (12v.) Thank you.

A: Try and turn the engine over with a socket on the crank pulley. Tha will tell you if it is seazed or not. Perhaps you broke aor knocked a wire off while changing the pan. Does it click or wherr when you turn it on? Neber heard of leaving it in on to pre oil it. I `m sure it does not have any kind of electric oil pump.

Q: VW GTI or VW VR6 GTI?
im looking at both cars. i like the body styles from 2000-2003 i like the turbo in the GTI but ive heard good things from the VR6 Tell me your opinions and knowledge on both cars Thanks

A: turbos can break, especially after 100K miles thatll cost ya 1K or more. drive aggresively? get ready to chew through gas on the turbo. normal driver? the turbo should save you gas bc of the smaller engine. get a manual if you go turbo, so you wil have more pickup off the line fromturbo and more fun to fdrive for sure. less auto stuff on the car, less to break!!! like auto trans, power everything, turbos. either way, great cars lots of fun, reliable, good on gas have fun!

Q: Which one is better, a 1997 Honda Prelude Type SH or a 1997 VW GTI VR6 Driver's Edition?


A: VW has had allot of quality issues in the past 10 years. I would go for the Honda Prelude, they are quite nice cars and very reliable.

Q: 2004 VW GTI VR6 modification help?
I might be getting a 2002-2005 vr6 24v soon and was wondering with the following mods: intake turbo exhaust chip flywheel spark plugs cams what else would be worth while? how much hp do you think these mods would make a vr6? any other information is greatly appreciated

A: first off ur going the wrong way in years of gti's try getting a 1995-1998 golf gti vr6 i have a 1995 and its got 234hp and i smoke lots of 07 -08 gti's and 2002 gti vr6s lol and depending what the types of parts ur looking at about 300+ hp

Q: Need help w/ my 95 VW GTI VR6?
I just bought a 1995 GTI VR6, the guy who sold it to me told me that he thought it needed a new tranny, cause you put it in first and drive but drives like your starting out in 3rd or 4th gear. I tried to put it in reverse and the car went foward! He told me that he just replaced the clutch and the guy was really having a hard time doing the job, and maybe he put it together wrong. What do you think??

A: My corrado used to do that. The cables need adjustment. You should be able to play around the shifter and find first gear(sounds like you found it over in reverse). It will not feel like it is where the shifter naturally wants to go. There is either too much/not enough slack in the shift cable. When you move the shifter, the cable is not pushing the lever on the tranny to the right position(hope that made sense)

Q: 2003 wrx vs 2001 vw gti vr6?
I am thinking about selling my 01 gti vr6 to get an awd car. I was thinking about an 03 wrx. Anyway my question is what can car would perform better with mods? I have a turbo kit, upgraded clutch, springs, and rear anti-sway bar ready to put on my vr6 to go to 300hp but if I sold my car and all these parts, with money from work I would have $3000 to spend on mods for my wrx. so would it be more worth staying with my vr6 turbo or going with the wrx? and which car would perform better on the track? (I plan on racing in track days)

A: I'd stick with the gti. I saw a Lancer beat a wrx.

Q: Would a 1989 Ford mustand 5.0 GT beat a vw gti vr6?
On lets say 1/4 mile.

A: The best number I've been able to find for Volkswagen's GTI VR6 is a 14.7 quarter-mile. But a 1989 Mustang 5.0 will do the job in 14.63 seconds.

Q: who would win in a street race,05 VW Gti VR6 or 03 lexus IS300?
who would win why

A: VR6 owns america lol. no but seriously the VW would cook the is300 ESPECIALLY the 24v one. The gti would get it right off the line (fwd) and the is300 (though impressive) would not have the power to pull on the gti for a looong time. Hope this Helped! Q: who will win in a race? bmw 525i or vw gti vr6?


A: The GTI vr6 will win easily. The engine in the 325 and 525 from 2004 on back is dirt slow. the new engine in the 525 is mildly quick. BMW's dont get fast until you get into the 530's, 545's, M3's, ect. a more even match would be a 530 manual transmission verses the GTI vr6.

pads are now comepletely worn down with no previous signs (squealing,etc), since no pads, one of the rear rotors is tore up. have pads and rotors need help asap thanks. im looking for info from a Haynes/Bentley auto manual.

Q: I have a 99.5 VW GTI VR6 that I absolutely love. I want to install dynamat in the car, but...?
there are so many products out there that who knows what product does the best job for the money. I installed aftermarket 6.5" speakers, and demand more volume from them that what im getting, and im tired of the VW's road noise issue. So, i guess the questions are as follows... a.) To Dynamat or Not to Dynamat b.) How much would i need to do an install on the ENTIRE cabin, in approx. sq footage. Trunk, doors (2 doors), roof, floor.. all but firewall c.) Just a thank you in advance :) i do appreciate your help

A: i got a 02 vw jetta 1.8t. not much road noise but since i got a small system on that car i used some deadending material. the best bang for the buck is going to be a product made by FatMat. i recommend you gettin their "Rattle Trap" series stuff. its a bit thicker than the brand from bestbuy and a whole lot cheaper in price. it sticks to the surface very good, havent had an issue with the crazy texas weather, doesnt smell like the other cheap brands and does an awesome job at stoping unwanted sounds. http://www.fatmat.com/kits/rattletrap/trunk.html thats their kit for the trunk only. search under Products for their other stuff. they also sell packs. biggest one is 100 ft^2 for about 200 bucks. http://www.fatmat.com/bulk/rattletrap/100.html price is very low for the great product.

Q: Whats Faster, A stock 02 gti 1.8t, Or a stock 02 Vw Gti Vr6???


A: the vr6 has more torque and the 1.8t spools out much faster. they would have to be pretty close to eachother, but if i were gonna pick my motor it would have to be the vr. there is no replacement for displacement!

A: i really like those. i never really liked 95 golfs because they just look to cheap and ugly to me,but vr6 gti is the way to go.that sporty touch just makes it look nice and the engine...really nice.not too long ago i smashed my corrado and was gonna buy 95 gti vr6 but in the end i somehow made the insurance company fix the corrado.if i get a chance i think i'll buy 95 vr6 gti someday...very light and fast.

Q: I have a 1997 VW GTI-VR6 (Golf III)...?
I've been doing some work to it and now it wont turn over. It makes 2 clicks and after 3 tries the alarm goes off. The only parst I tinkered with that my effect it would be the radiators. The A/C rad I disconnected but my other radiator i just moved out the way. I was working on my air flow, cuz some tubes in the front were loose, but they couldn't cause a starting problem. I'm going to start check fuses and my starter but I'm not sure what is going on with it. If anybody got a clue, let me know it would be very apprieciated. thanks, brad

A: the circuit on the radiator had a sensor on side is to run your fans and on the top of the battery is 1 main fuse box see if this fuses AR OK each fuse looks like a strip metal remove the nut is 10.mm wed the cable together and on the passenger side dash panel is other fuse box
