Q: 2003 VW GTi 1.8t - O2 Sensor?
The error code says it's for the Bank 1 Sensor 1 O2 sensor. Which one is that - where is it located?

A: I agree with above, have the car completely checked out for other codes at a VW dealer or find a VW enthusiast in your area with a VAG-COM (check http://forums.vwvortex.com/zeroforum?id=510 for someone in your area). If it truly is the O2 sensor that would be the first (front) sensor BEFORE the cat. converter

Q: I got an error code of P0118 on my 2003 VW GTi. It says Engine Coolant Temp Circuit High Input.?
Where is the sensor located, and how do I change it?

A: Ignore the first answer. Temp sensor is on the tranny side of the head or in the top radiator hose where it has a metal interface to the center front of the head. Need the engine to be sure I assume 1.8L 8V 4 cyl. Either the car is overheating or the sensor has an open circuit. Need to check the resistance with a multi-meter(Ohms). Not hard thing but you will get Anti-frz all over as the sensor mounts into the coolant system. ASE Cert Auto Tech, 92 GTI16V 2.0L

Q: how to check vw golf 1.8 t gti bhp 2003 plate?

A: I have an '03 GTi 20th Anniv. Edition and I have researched the heck out of this thing. The 1.8T in the '03 GTi's are rated at 180 hp and 174 lb/ft of torque. And from what I understand there are 4 or 5 different engine codes for these engines, so you would have to find out what engine code it has. The code is stamped on the passenger side of the engine right under the engine cover. From what I have read it seems that each engine code depicts a different tuning regiment for the motor. Meaning they have a blanket rating of 180hp and 174 lb/ft, but it may actually be slightly higher or lower, depending on the engine code. My motor pulls very strong and I doubt it "only" has 180hp...

Q: MazdaSpeed Protege or VW GTi 1.8t?
My buddy was looking into getting a 2003 GTi 1.8T or a 2003 MazdaSpeed Protege. Which is a better car? And by better I mean, which can you do more stuff to and which is faster and has better handling and such. What are the specs and track times to these two cars? Can anyone help me out please?

A: Well, here are the bare specs: 2003 GTI 1.8T = 180hp @ 5,500/173lb.ft. @ 1,950 1.8L 20V DOHC, (manual) weighs 2,932lbs. 2003 Mazdaspeed Protege = 170hp @ 6,000/160lb.ft. @ 3,500 2.0L 16V DOHC, (manual) weighs 2,843. The GTI debuted as a real driver's car back in the 80s. It was small, lightweight, with respectable power and great driving dynamics. Just a great car. But the last few years, the Mark IV (1997-2005) was considered by many automotive enthusiasts as being too heavy, slow, and not inspiring to drive. Basically the GTI had lost its way and become more about luxury than speed. Now, that doesn't mean that it isn't still a popular tuner car. The GTI Mark IV has big aftermarket support, the 1.8L turbo is a great powerplant to work with and the car is reliable. There are tons of great Mk IVs out there that are very fast indeed; but, it makes a world of difference to have a solid and great chassis to work with right off the bat. That way you don't have to overcome its shortcomings in order to build speed and handling. That's where the Mazdaspeed Protege comes in. The car does have less power than the GTI but it also weighs less. But just those numbers can't really tell you how it drives, and it does drive great. Performance Mazdas have always been praised for their handling (RX7, RX8, Miata) and the Protege is no different. It has an incredible chassis and it handles like a champ because of it. It truly is a driver's machine when you want to take the twisties. It has a limited slip differential, as well. It's also a well built and reliable machine. Some of the big points the Mazda loses out on, though, is that it doesn't have the same aftermarket support that the GTI does. You'll be able to find performance parts for the Protege, but the GTI has been around for AGES, hence the community of tuners and parts is just massive. If I had a choice, I'd still get the Protege, though. But if your friend has a little more money to work with, the GTI Mk.V (2006) blows both of these cars out of the water. The Mk.V returns to the formula that the original GTI kept true to - incredible driving dynamics, great power, and a solid, unbeatable chassis. It's better than any GTI from the past 15 years.

Q: How do I fix my broken fuel gauge?
I own a 2003 VW GTI The fuel gauge has not worked since the old owner replaced the fuel pump right before I bought the car. I am assuming the problem is with the lever, as every time I adjust the lever, the gauge moves. Any idea what I should replace in order to get my gauge to work again?

A: If, when you have the float assembly out of the tank, you can make the gage work by moving the float arm, then the float has gone bad or the whole assembly is being installed at the wrong direction.

Q: vw low power when i start in cold?
hi i have a 2003 vw gti, it just recently got colder in my area (below freezing) and i this morning when i left for work my car started fine and when i put it in to first it lagged and jerked like it wasnt getting any power. i gave it more gas and nothing. after about 5 seconds of this the gas kicked in and i shot off. there is no difference after that initial 5 or so seconds of power lag. it happend after i left work today so its seems that to happen when the engine is really cold. i thought it might be my sparks plugs or fuel injectors. i would appriciate any advice you can give. 2003 VW GTI 70,000 miles

A: The transmission can get sticky sometimes when it gets really cold. It's normal. Just drive it gently until it warms up.

Q: One cylender doesnt work?
I have a 2003 VW GTI 1.8 turbo. One of the cylenders stoped working. Its not the spark plug and its not the coil, I've checked. What could that be?

A: Try changing the plug wires and one of the coil packs is probably bad or going bad

Q: mazda or vw?
So I'm in the market for a new car and I have been switching back and forth between different cars. It went from a VW GTi 1.8t to a Honda Prelude to a MSP then back to the GTi. Well I've decided to just go with a car and I've narrowed it down to a Titanium Gray MSP with 48,295miles for $12k and a black 2003 GTi 1.8t with 45,500 miles for $12500. Both are 5 speeds. I dont know which to get. Can anyone offer me advice? I plan on throwing some mods into the car i choose. Can anyone give me an honest opinion and the pros/cons for both cars. Please help me out.

A: VW, German cars are more respected in the car world
