Q: 2002 VW GTi 1.8T Transmission Trouble?
Everytie I start the car in the mornigns or simply after a while of not driving it (a couple of hours) The car wont go past 1st or 2nd gear, the problem goes away after about 10 minutes. I chnaged the trans oil already, and the problem still persists, what could be the problem?

A: When the transmission and gear oil inside are cold, it magnifies problems you are having. Do you ever hear the car grinding when you are shifting into 2nd or 3rd once the car has warmed up? The problem could have two causes, if there are grinding sounds once the car is warmed up, I would suspect the 2nd and 3rd gear synchros inside the transmission. The other issue could be that the clutch is not disengaging fully. Since the 02J transmission in your 2002 GTI has a non-adjustable hydraulic clutch, this would mean a defective pressure plate or throwout bearing.

Q: my stereo wont work .... why???? vw 2002 gti vr6?
so ok here is the problem my stereo is not working .... i switched out the battery because it was bad after i switched it everything was working fine .... then like 2 days later my stereo went out .... here is the weired thing it happen before about a year ago my car didnt want to start i kept having to get a jump from my dad the reason was because i left my stereo on while washing the car and it drain my battery it eventually stared to work on its own but my stereo didnt until i decided to get charged up from my friends at autozone .... this time nothing works .... my stereo wont start at all .... can anybody help me with this .....

A: Is it the factory style radio? If so is it in 'safe' mode or not displaying at all? If it is not displaying at all a dealer or anyone with the proper radio removal tools (special tools for this) can pull the radio out. You should first check the fuse at the rear, if this is good then unplug both connectors at the left rear of radio and then reconnect. Sometimes this will bring them out of 'stupid' mode and it will start working again. You will of course need your four digit radio code to input to bring it out of safe mode if this does work.

Q: Where is the TCM located on my 2002 Volkswagen GTI 1.8T vw?
Recently, the car has been acting up. On cold starts, it will not go past 1st or 2nd gear, once it warms up (about 10 minutes) the car runs smoothly thru-out the day, what could be the problem? I am trying to get the TCM out to see if thats whats faulty, but can't seem to find it, anyone know where it is? Thanks!

A: Your TCM is located under the cowl ! I can tell you that a tcm will not fix this problem ! I am almost certain that you will need a valve body! It sounds as if it is warped and restricting fluid flow until it heats up and allows for proper flow!

A: VW's love to be driven and driven hard, but do need regular maintenance. They're not like a toyota that'll go on same old oil for a year without complaint. Q: Whats the best way to sell my car , even though im still making payments?
I own a 2002 VW GTI, and am still making payments on it. I have paid about 2000 of it off, from about 12000. I cant afford it anymore, and I wanted to know... If i turn it over to the bank will I get any money back? If not what is the best way to go about it? Thanks!

A: Assuming good condition, you have a vehicle worth about $8,500 so you are upside down. Besides, it isn't your car to sell, it belongs to the bank. If you turn it over to the bank, that will count against your credit rating as a repossession. They will not give you anything back, on the contrary they will put it on the auction block and sell it. The balance left after the sale will be your responsibility to pay off. You could find someone with credit enough to make the bank happy that would take over your payments, but I doubt serious that anyone would agree to pay $10,000 for a vehicle worth $8,500. Discuss your problem with the bank, and see if they have any suggestions. Perhaps you could refinance for a bit longer term, and drop your payments.

I sort of have 3 questions actually... I'm looking buy a replacement catalytic converter for my wife's car. We live in California. She drives a 2002 VW Golf-automatic 4 cylinder, non-GTI. 1. While searching on the web I found many replacements, but 90% of them do not ship to/or illegal in California. Why? 2. And if I were to purchase one somehow, how would the SMOG/DMV guys ever know? 3. Any suggestions on which/where to buy?

A: because it may not pass inspection or work to ur states spects and you could waste alot of money and end up costing more in the end.so do it rite the frist time it will be cheaper in the end.

im going to get either a 2001 or 2002 model.is the turbo classed as a GTI or is it just a 1.8 turbo and the GTI is a different model altogether?is there a 2.0 turbo?or is the 2.0 a GTI only? also i will be getting a hybrid turbo and dump valve fitted.can anyone recommend a fairly cheap but quality one to buy? any help would be much appreciated. thanks a lot
