what is the clutch size for a 2000 VW gti gls 1.8t? is it the 220mm or 225mm? because i heard they got changed in that year so i dont know witch one it is...
A: he original was 220 but everyone upgrades to the 225. Look at germanautoparts.com

A: find a better deal on that clutch job, just the minimum to repair it not the premium job.. ether way you have to fix it. you wont get zip for it at sale, if it doesn't drive. And next time don't pay too much for car, sorry, just had to toss that in. because that is the real prob. here. Still Owing 5k on this car, good luck.

A: You could either have the clutched fixed and then sell it at the same price
Or you can sell it at a discounted price because of the clutch.
I just got my clutch fixed on my honda and it was about $500. Someone might buy that knows how to do themselves for cheaper than that. Especially if your selling your car on craigslist, people will still buy it!!!

Q: Will VW GTI Wheels work on VW Jetta?

A: YES! they will fit BRA!!! But try using da vw polo GTI Size or use the 205/45/R17 they should fit

A: ZAchary O lied, the 1995-2000 GTi's do not come with a turbocharger, its either a VR6 or a 2.0? but if you get an mk4 (1999.5-2004) Gti's have an option with a turbocharger but with a 1.8 Litre which are pretty quick but not as fast as the VR6 which is a 2.8litre.
Gti's are fun and quick cars, depending on what you get you'll get decent mpg.
Q: Should I fix this 98 GTI VW?
My husband has a 98 GTI, he says it might have tranmission problem soon and doesnt want to put the extra money into it,however we just had the car paid off, about 5 months ago, should we put the extra money to fix it and how much might it cost????? Also, we bought the car for about $3600, and he says he could probably sell it as is for $2000, is it worth it??
A: Ignore the folks saying saying, in so many words, JUNK IT.
I'm on my 4th new VW, and have had probably 6 used ones prior to that. All have been entirely problem-free and completely reliable for me, except one new one had a slight paint defect which was fixed under warranty [hardly a drivetrain quality issue].
I had an almost-new Chrysler once that had an enormous crush on the dealership's service bay - I just couldn't get it away from there for long. Huge drivetrain problems, too, not just little problems.
Look around in the Yellow Pages for some mechanic that specializes ONLY in VW repairs. He will likely take very good care of you, and can probably get you going again for about 1/3 of what it would cost elsewhere. If you can't find him in your phone book, call the nearest VW dealership, ask for the parts or service department, and then ask them if they know of a mechanic in the area that works only on VWs. They'll hook you up.
BTW - is your car automatic or manual? Some around the '98 model year were automatics that had the base Golf engine in it. If it's automatic, it will cost much more to fix than if it's a manual. Beyond that, if it's a manual, it might just need gear oil [just a few bucks] or a new clutch, prob around $300 to replace.

Q: what is the average repair time of a thermostat on a car.?
I know the part is only about $25. I have a 2000 VW Golf Gti with the 1.8t Engine. My car takes forever to warm up so I suspect it's about time to change the thermostat considering i'm at 180,000Kms.
A: 1.5 hours by an experienced mechanic. 3 hours for a shade tree mechanic. Days if you do it yourself and a bunch of $$$$$$.
Q: Think I burned out my clutch- please help!?
so i have a 2000 VW gti...its a stick. and it was working just fine half an hour ago but i come home to change and when i leave again i get halfway down the street before i realized i couldnt get from 2nd to 3rd, then i realized gross burning plastic-ish smell, and pulled over. the shifter was really hard to move when the ignition was on, and the clutch stuck really badly in reverse(somethin it never did before) i kept tryin to get it to move but it would only go about 8 mph tops and at that speed the rpms were almost red lined, i was so scared but got back home and am dreading talking to a mechanic tomrrow morning someone please tell me whats going on! thanks in advance
A: Sounds like your clutch disc fell apart and is toasted. They have to pull the transmission to replace clutch pressure plate, disc and throwout bearing, they may advise resurfacing your flywheel...do it.
Q: Which would be better?
I am looking at buying a 2000 VW GTI GLX. It is a V6, and has about 85,000 miles. Leather, sunroof, 5 spd manual, so its basically loaded. They are asking 8,900.
Or I was looking at a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS. It has 64,000 miles. It is a 5 spd manual, sunroof, cloth interior, and a 4 cylinder motor, but is still pretty fast, just not as many options.
I am not quite sure what I should do. Gas is good for both, but what can I make faster, and what one would be a better car and why?

Q: Audi, VW question?
i have the MKV VW GTI, will rims for Audi A4 2000-2003 fit the 07 GTI?
they are both 5x112 bolt Pattern!
A: yes they will with a 5x112. However you might need spaces depending on the size. (width) the GTI had more of a fender flare than the audi rims for the audi on the GTI will probly tuck under the fenders and if you want a wider look get some spacers.

Im 18 i have a VW golf MK2 GTI 1988 cost me £2000, but to insure it is £5000 a year which i cant afford, what happens if i get caught driving without insurance.
