Q: Is a VW Beetle Convertible suitable for me and my 2 year old?
I really want a VW Beetle convertible for me and my Daughter. Has any one had a convertible and a small child. Do you recommend it? What r the pros and cons....
I currently drive a Chevy Alanche, its just me, my daughter and mys husband, he has his own toy car and i think maybe the beetle would be nice for me and my daughter for late summer evening rides.
A: I've actually found the Beetles to be pretty roomy on the inside (more space than a mini for sure). if you're taking a booster seat in and out of the car a lot the two door aspect might be a pain but if you leave it in it'd be fine, plus soon enough she'll be sitting in a normal seat anyway so it'd be a temporary situation.
They're very safe cars though and if you maintain it it'll run very well for a while.
They have a decent amount of space in the trunk. I wouldn't have problem fitting all my groceries in it.
Q: How do I convert a VW beetle from single circuit master cylinder to dual circuit?
How do I convert a 61 VW Beetle from single circuit master cylinder to dual circuit? I don't understand the residual vs non-residual type? Is it a straight up swap of the master cylinder? I am putting in new metal lines and am told that a dual circuit is a good idea?
Many thanks
A: you might want to go to a wrecking yard an see how it was done on the super beetle. I believe there is more to it than just a master cylinder swap- proportioning valve comes to mind.
Q: How do you remove the front seats from a 1966 VW Beetle?
How do you remove the front seats from a 1966 VW Beetle? How do you remove the upholstery? Some of the inside springs sound and feel loose. I want to tighten them up.
A: To remove the seats, reach under the seat and disconnect the spring that aids the seat slide to the rear. It may be missing over time. Hold the adjustment lever while sliding the seat foreward. A helper pushing from the back may be necessary. Be sure to lubricate the seat tracks with a white lithium grease prior to reinstallation, to aid in installation/adjustment.
The seat springs that feel loose may be broken. Replacement seat spring bases are available, or you can take them to a professional to have individual springs replaced. It's not the type of job the average DIY'er can do at home.
Seat covers are held in place, for the most part by hogs rings. You should be able to get a set, complete with a special plier for installing them from the same place you bought your covers.
Q: How do I put a front license plate on a new VW Beetle?
I bought a VW Beetle, new style, and I have a vanity plate for the front but I can't figure out how to get the danged thing on. There are no holes or mounting brackets or anything.
A: DON'T DRILL YOUR BUMPER!!!
It's a cosmetic issue, but if you ever decide to take the front plate off you'll have ugly holes in your bumper. It's cost a friend of mine almost $500 to fix those holes at a body shop.
What you need to get is a Plate Mate. They have a website.
This thing attaches without drilling into your shiny brand-new bumper. The other bug owners at the forum below (which is my regular hangout and total godsend) are raving about it.
Maybe we'll see you at the fourm? It's all owners showing off their buggies and trading advice :)
Q: what can I expect to pay for a paint job for my 69 VW Beetle?
I am restoring a 1969 VW Beetle Convertible and am looking to have it painted. I want the fenders removed and the entire car painted before I add the new top and new interior. Anyone know what I can expect to pay for the paint job alone?
A: Since it's a metal car theres probably alot of rust then alot of prep i would say 2-5k for a good job . But if you just want a cheap maaco paint job about $300-800.
Q: Any current or previous drivers have an opinion on the VW BEETLE?
Im thinking of buying a 2000 VW Beetle but I've heard a lot of bad reviews on it. I heard it takes a lot to repair the smallest things. The used car dealer wants $6,500 for it. It's a manual 5 speed and the engine is 2.0L I4. It also has 62k miles on it. Is this a good deal?
A: Coming from a dealer $6500 seems like a good price with only 62,000 miles on it. In times of a better economy I don't doubt it would be priced about $2000 more. My daughter drives a 2001 Volkswagen Beetle GL and she thinks it is a great little car and a joy to drive. I have driven it a few times and I think it is a bit uncomfortable but it is fun to drive. One thing for sure is that it handles real well and gets excellent traction in snow, although the automatic transmission shift from gear to gear has a very noticeable lag in very cold weather even after the engine warms to operating temperature and even in our normal midwest cold temperatures it has a nasty tendency to hang in 1st gear if the engine is not given a good warm up before driving. But the one you are thinking about buying has a manual transmission and so you won't have to worry about automatic transmission problems like that. As far as the repair work it has needed, right from the outset it was in the shop for battery cable connection problems and problems with the hood release. Even now the hood won't release unless someone lifts on the hood while another is pulling the release. It had transmission work done on it and a cracked cylinder head replaced as well a starter replacement and alternator replacement along with the battery connection problems and hood release problems while it was still under the 4 year factory warranty but the dealer has always given her a loaner to drive if it was in the shop more than one day for warranty work. It has been a fairly reliable car since those warranty repairs and the other issues it has had have just been the normal minor stuff and my daughter has been happy with it.
Q: How to find vehicle pricing for a 1969 VW Beetle?
I'm looking to buy a 1969 VW Beetle that I found for sale in my city, but I want to know the blue book value or something similar so I know if the asking price is fair. Does anyone know where to look? Kelly Blue Book only let us check pricing on a vehicle dating back to 1987. Help?
A: If you really want to know what it is worth whether selling or buying from a dealer or private owner and you are withing the US then go to Kelly's blue online I have the link below. You can find out any value or pricing whether new or old on there and also check out a consumer's report on it and see what you get although I have never used consumer reports before. But Kelly's Blue Book is the best!!!
Dag I jumped the gun on this one but give Consumer reports a try.

Q: How do I fix/prevent roof leak in my VW Beetle?
2000 VW Beetle with sunroof. Leaking floor in back seat and trunck wet when in the rain. Help! Is there an easy fix or maintenance I could do?
A: There are 4 drain holes . Open your roof all the way and find them. Use a flexible rod (I like to use an old speedometer cable) and gently push and twist it down the holes. Most times it`s just crap built up in the drain tubes. They should be between 3-5' long. Most auto glass shops would be able to help you.. Note: DO NOT!!!!!! stick a coat hanger in the hole. You can do more damage than you are fixing.

Q: Will a BabyTrend Infant Loc Carseat fit in a VW New Beetle?
I'm having a baby in three months and found a carseat that I really want, but I'm scared that it might not fit into the back of my '04 VW Beetle. Does anyone have any experience with the Baby Trend Infant Lock Carseat in Beetles or other very small cars? Getting another car isn't really an option for me at this time. Thanks.
A: Check here to see if anyone has ever tried installing that the Baby Trend seats in a VW: http://www.carseatdata.org/
Also, I encourage you to have a SafeKids CPST(child passenger safety technician) teach you how to install your seat correctly. 80-90% of carseats are incorrectly installed and used. http://usa.safekids.org/state_display.cfm
Q: What Kind of oil should I use in my 2000 model VW Beetle?
I have a 2000 model VW Beetle with a 2 liter engine and it needs an oil change. What kind of oil should I use?
A: 20W-50 for summer and 5W-30 for winter, pick a brand as long as it isn't Quaker State or Penzoil.
Synthetic is too late for your 7 year old car and too expensive to waste.
Change your oil every 2-3K miles to keep your enine alive and happy. No one wants an unhappy Beetle
