The Passion of VW Car Owners

Why is it that all VW car owners are so passionate about their VW car? I'm a VW car owner and i'm not really into cars, but for some reason or another I am passionate about my 2000 GTI; I love the car to death. It's going on 9 year sand the car still runs great and looks good.

My very first car was a VW passat. When I picked it up from the car dealership, the dealer said that the previous owner insisted that whomever purchases the car must contact him. I never did end up calling him, put I now understand why he would have wanted that.

I purchased my first VW, which was the passat in 1999. The Passat was a 2001 with just a little over 65,000 km on it. I put just under 100,000 km on it over the next 3 years and didn't have any significant problems with it, the only they I took car of was the scheduled maintenance. Whe I got my VW GTI in 2003, my dad bought the passat off of me and continued to drive it up until 2007. In 2007, my uncle purchased it from my dad and drove the crap out of the car. He ended up blowing the engine in the car in the summer of 2008 and quickly installed a passat diesel engine; this was his plan all along so it was no big deal that the gas engine died on him.

My uncle is still drving that car today and the car and body are in almost perfect condition. I think this story just goes to show how VW's really can stand the test of time. Sure it cost and arm and leg to fix them, but the cars last forever and still drive like a dream after 20 years.
